In my aquarium recently I have had a sudden growth of many different types of macoalgaes. I was hoping that someone here could help me identify some of them and let me know if they are good to have or bad. P1070902.jpg

thank you for the id, as of right now i only have a small amount. Once it grows larger, I will let you know. I would assume you would need more then just a few leafs for it to grow and survive, correct?

Normally a small leaf with a majority of its base still intact is all you need. Do you have any updated pics? After a second look, you might actually have dragons breath macro algae.

sorry for the long delay. here are some new pics.

I'm quite sure that is Nemastoma sp. ( I'm interested in doing a trade with you if you're in Canada and I've a large variety of marine plants to select mostly red and brown ) for I had lost mine a few years ago. I'll consider the other types of red algae showed at the lower pictures belong to some type of pest turf algae and I'll get rid of it in my marine plant tank definately.

Thank you for the reply ferret and for the id. i actually live in California, sorry.

Im in Vegas Vector if you'd like to trade, I have some red branching macro, dragons breath, and gracilaria hayi. I can send you some chunks of each if you want to send 1 chunk of yours. Noticed you had 2 colonies going.
