New to the Nano reef

HR,

So far so good with the livestock. I have my fingers crossed. One good thing that came out of this...now I have an extra working hood with 2 bulbs. I thought it was fried, but the ballast and hood still works perfect. JBJ is sending me a tank only. They want to me use the hood from the cracked tank that came overnight and to throw out the 1st cube that was up and running. So, I now have like 3 or 4 pumps, tons of sponges, carbon and bioballs, etc.

Not too shabby.

New tank will be here by "end of day" thursday. Only 3 more days. But you guys were right...the clowns, xenias, calustreas and zoas are super hardy. I was mostly worried about my pride and joy, flowey, the flower pot. But it really seems fine. Every stalk is extended and it is just chilling.

I will keep you guys updated...and now that I have the hang of photobucket, I will be sure to post, once I rebuild.

Steve,

I couldn't wait, I had to order some stuff from Bryan at Purecaptive.

Got the Orange Yuma that is under his softie section, a cool looking chalice under his hard coral section and a Florida Ric that he sent me a picture of but isn't on his site (cause I'm special ;) )

Totally hooked on Rics right now. I'm trying to trade some zoa's for more, it's like an addiction.... :)

I am taking my new signature very seriously

"Thee who dies with the most corals wins."

Catch me if you can.... :)

And what happened to Greg and The King? I think we lost them back around page 20 :(

Greg and the King are secrectly on a flight to Ill. to set up a base for our ninja activity.

I have been checking out some more stuff on Bryans site as well. There is a 5 polyp florida Ric on there. Also, my woman likes the neon green clove polyps and I think that Blastoma merletti(sic) on the bottom of the hard coral page is sweet.

I may shoot him an e-mail and see if he does discounts for bulk orders. It was a good week last week as far as signing up clients goes, so I am ready to descend on the LFS and stock up this saturday (barring any setbacks with the new tank). And I wouldn't mind throwing Bryan a good chunk of business as well.

OK well I made a little purchase from Brian last week:

WYSIWYG Chocolate Mint Calustrea sp.
Zoo 23 - RadioActive Dragoneye
WYSIWYG Red Ice Cynarina

Now the last couple days my xenia hasnt been looking to hot... I dont know what you would technically call them but each stem that is usually pulsing is now like i tight little ball... like maybe the piece that pulses died an fell off. there is still movement in some but most dont look to good.

Any ideas what this could be? Not enough light? Flow? did another water test and everything is still the same. I did use some liquid coral glue to stick them on a rock... The only logical explanation i can think of is I handled them to much. like with the clay they wouldnt stay on the rock so I had to keep repostiioning. Once I got th eliquid glue I stuck them on some small rocks so I can easily move them around if they need more light.

Also, with the largest piece when i moved it in the water substance was coming off kind of made a smokey cloud in the water.

Where did you put them? I started mine on the sand and they love it there so I haven't moved them...if they aren't on the sand, try moving them there...and, try to find a low-flow spot to start them in...maybe they just need a chance to relax and chill out...if you have to try going without your light for a day so they can totally relax...then go back to your normal routine and see how they do...you may have simply stressed them out and they haven't chilled yet...mine did this and when I moved them they came back within a day...

Pics of what they look like would be nice also...especially to see if it looks abnormal...

Well they are glued to a few small rocks placed at the highest point in my tank. should I just place the rock they ar eglued to in the sand and leave the light off for a day? Also what temp to you keep your tank at?

I would bet that if they are way up top then the light is making them mad...my tank is about 79-80 degrees F...it was steady at 78-79 before I added the 2nd power head but the added flow has opened up my frogspawn and the tank inhabitants don't seem to mind the increase in temp...

I would start by putting them on the sand...near a power head (under it) so they are in a low-flow area...just reduce the photo period for a couple days...for example, if you normally do 10 hours, only do so 7 hours for 2 or 3 days then 8.5hrs a few more then finally back to 10...you get the picture... :)

Have any of you guys ordered from cquarium.com? I want to get that red goniopora. It says that they are a hardier species. I didn't know there were different species of goniopora. Also, what is the deal with the different prices? Is it me, or am I just buying an "extended warranty" on the piece?

Let me know what you guys think....

I just read the thread about the guy from cquarium.com Sounds like bad stuff for sure. Glad I was able to read it before I bought from him. Too many horror stories.

Thanks for the lookout Colin.

That coral doesn't even look that good. For $1600 it needs to have some freaking color.

Steve, if you want a red goniopora shoot Bryan an e-mail. He has connections. Also send him the link. cquarium had a "blue" candycane, I mean crazy blue. I sent the pic to another dealer and he said it was "enhanced" and not really that blue. Funny thing is right after that smketyr was taking down his monster of a tank and I got some from him :)

Also check out a food that claims to be good for goni's called reef roids. Can't remember the site, just google it.

Greg, that is a sweet zoa in the top picture! What is bryans web site address.

Don't put the xenia under the powerhead the suction will hurt it more. Try placing it below the output maybe an inch or two away from the nozzle and below. How old is your tank? I had a hard time with xenia with the new tank, killed a couple of stalks. When the tank was matured a while, more than six months the xenia was a weed. I have a stalk in the frag and it is pitiful, I just redid both tanks over the last two weekends, fresh sand, large water changes, different rock work etc.

My flower pot took a turn for the worse with the tank redo, only have about 15% of the polyps left.

Steve, I have been eyeing that red gonipora as well, but I am going to hold off for now. I have a larger tank in the planning stages and/or I am also thinking of doing a 29g bio cube.

Tom,

It's www.purecaptive.com

I just placed an order as well. He didn't have any zoa's posted, most of them were sold out and he wanted to update the site.

If you ever want to go halfsies on an order LMK, I've dealt with Bryan a lot. Great guy.

Colin,

Is this where you got your toadstool? The one on the site looks like a clone of yours. I will let you know, right now I am looking for zoa frags, until I get that retro check then I will be doing an upgrade.
