Just a heads up on the anemones! They will not stay where you place them and they will go where they choose stinging corals on their way! They can out grow a nano tank quickly. I don't like to be negative but it is just things I have heard.

Whoa. Just had a bit of a scare. The green goni, xenia and a few zoa clusters pulled in the polyps and shut tight. I did a quick water test and all params were fine. Then I did salinity test with the hydrometer and the reading was 1.030, wich is way above the 1.022-1.024 that it should have been. I quickly added a good bit of RO/DI water and things went back to normal.
Guess I didn't realize that I was losing water to evap (its the first time I've had to top off since I've had it). But I have been running the heat high lately since it has been in low double to high single digits outside. Absolutely frigid.
Heading to the LFS tomorrow to see if anything can be done about the yellow-green algae on the glass (perhaps an additive or a low tech answer like a mini-squeegie).

Steve, see if they have a microfiber cloth. My LFS gave me a sheet of this cotton looking stuff, soft on one side, coarse on the other when I bought my mag float. You are supposed to put the cloth in between the mag float and the aquarium glass and it does a better job with getting the algae off but after a bit I just used my hand to scrub it off since the mag float is to big and bulky for the nanocube.

Finally snapped a good shot of one of my hermits.
I'm telling ya slukach, get one of those sticks with the plastic foam sponge . It takes me seconds to clean that yellow green algae off!

Great macro shot King.
My green carpet anemone used to eat damsels. One day I was checking the tank and my blue damsel was missing. I looked everywhere, thought it went carpet surfing. Following day the anemone poops out the carcus of the damsel. Solved two problems, got the anemone to eat which it wasn't and got rid of the overbearing mean vicious damsel.
I am battling aiptasia in the 10 gallon and hair algae on the zoa rocks in the frag tank. Any solutions?
Parameters are normal and phosphates are not detected in the frag.
I have tried everything with aiptasia that I know. Any help?

A "true" peppermint shrimp are good for aptasia! " joes juice" works well too!
More circulation might help with the hair algae solution , also emerald crabs and blue legged hermits or an algae blennie.

I have not tried the peppermint shrimp yet. I cannot find one locally. Shipping will be more than the shrimp. Joe juice did not work. I have tried injecting kalk, kalk paste, injecting lemon juice.
The hair algae, I have a ton of flow, 4 powerheads and the return pump. I have two emeralds and 25 blue leg hermits. I was going to get an algae blennie last weekend but sub zero temps I am not buying anything until it warms.
The hair algae is only on my three of my zoas, two rocks and frag plug. I can't figure it out.

If it looks like aptasia and Joes juice, kalk, etc didn't kill it then it is probably more likely a majano anemone...still a pest anemone, but 3 times harder to kill than aptasia...definitely, look for a pepperming shrimp if you can find one.

Hey Tom,
Did you try Sho Tank for a peppermint? I got 5 peppermints from Sharkys but the Pseudo ate them all within 24 hours, expensive feast
I have both Joes juice and Stop Aiptasia. The Stop Aiptasia seems to have worked fairly well, I just bought the Joes Juice as a backup.

I actually was thinking of setting up a 10 in a sunny window and harvesting it for the flame. I also have those kick butt hermits from Premium Aquatics, they knocked out the HA on one frag I got once.

thanks smketyr, I have a Dimage Z10 by Konica Minolta and I have been happy with it ! I can snap a couple hundred shots w/ flash before a recharge.

Jason, it definitely is aiptasia. I have tulip anemones close cousing to majanos and they are tough to get rid off, usually a shot of lemon juice does it.
Colin, I will have to call Matt at Shotank to see if he has any. Two weekends ago he was sold out. Those red skirt zoas I got from you is one of the ones inflicted with the HA.
The HA just started middle of last week. I had my RO/DI checked and TDS of 2, maybe time for new filters. The thing is it is isolated. I have a macro in my 10 that is coarser than HA but not brillo like cheato but that comes off easy, this does not. I am afraid that it will choke the zoas.
King do you use a tripod. Your pictures are always sharp. I am in the market for a new camera that is why I asked.

Sorry it took so long to get back on here ... the anemone looks to be a condi... so far he has attached his self to 1 rock but if he starts roaming to much out he goes... heres some pix
1 question, the calustrea isnt nearly as deep red as the pic i saw from brian... could it need more light? maybe move it off the sandbed?

Gregg, yep it is a condi. The color may be different due to different lighting MH vs PC, I have many times bought a coral to have it look different in my tank. I have the same zoos as the third from the left. Bought a frag maybe a month ago and has tripled in size and the color morph has changed several times.

Got the pink Yuma in the tank, looks amazing. The Purple Death polyp looks kinda rough, we'll have to see how it does tomorrow night when I get home from work.
Greg- The Flame is usually the last fish you should add due to aggression to new tank mates. I would be careful down the road, maybe add any new fish when the lights are out. Great fish though, reminds me, I gotta go feed mine....
