Wow, everyones tanks are all looking great. To think that this is the 800th post on this thread. I know I've learned more on here from you guys than I could ever have hoped to find bouncing around on the net.

Thanks again to all......

I seldom make a move with out discussing things on these forums.
It is too often you get conflicting advice but at least here you can get a consensus of ideas to avoid costly mistakes.

hi...few pgs back talking about kalk dosing, auto topoffs, etc

1) can anyone post pics and info about off-the-shelf systems people are using that they are having good success with? same for DIY type setups?

2) also, same for O-T-S or DIY h20 topoff systems?

3) either of these usually on either timers, continuous slow drips, or auto/float valves?

sorry, hope this thread is OK for these topics...seems the discussion bounces to lots of things. i like this post...just read about 10 pgs of it for the first time.
;)

starting mine very very soon...need to make some choices on things i've never bought/incorporated before. my last tank was fishonly/liverock and just filters & skimmer... need some assistance on starting reef.

thx

No new corals this week still working on the cyano prob on the sand. The yellow green algae seems to be subsiding . instead of daily cleaning of the glass seems like every 3 days.
After the my water change today I wil try puttin a maxijet 900 PH and see if that takes care of the cyano!

here is a pic of my two fish in the nano they were nice enough to pose for the shot.

Ok, I just added the powerhead to the tank and my fish are pinned to the left side of the tank and it looks like a sand storm . Hopefully it will settle soon!
My circulation is up to 20X now ,hope it works!

Guys,

Quick story: I went to a LFS yesterday that I had never been to before. As soon as I walked in I could tell it was no good. Dirty, dusty and nasty. I walked back to the tank area and they had about 20 tanks. 18 were empty, 1 had a sand sifter star in it and another had a lionfish that looked hurting. Since I had read on the website they had corals, I asked the guy. He took me to a 75 gallon tank and said, "here ya go, $6 a pound for the coral, let me know how much you want and I'll weigh it and wrap it for you". As I looked at the tank full of live rock I said, "ooooookay", stared a bit long and walked right the hell out of there.

Just a reminder, careful where you shop folks.

Technically, he was right...live rock IS dead corals after all... ;)

Exactly right though...watch where you shop...if it isn't someplace that has a good reputation to begin with, don't go there...if you have a local group to ask questions in, find out what type of experiences everyone else local to you has had with a particular LFS prior to visiting for the first time...you'd be suprised the number of stores that don't know their butt from a hole in the ground...

I wish I could buy my coral for 6 dollars a pound.
Well , 6 bucks a pound is not bad for LR. Was it any good? They couldn't screw that up . Or could they?
Yeah ,I am always looking for new places, all my LFS's are a half hour drive! I am constantly looking for new places but are usually dissapointed. I guess i am lucky I have three good ones to work with!

live rock was completely green, covered with algae. and the water looked a bit cloudy. just by the look of the store I wouldn't have bought. it actually wasn't even a true lfs. they had a few dogs in dirty little cages. THAT type of sh*t really depresses me.

Just ran out and got my coral fix. It is a green pagoda cup . I was told they were not to difficult to keep . I should have done more research . It has been in the LFS for six weeks and looks great . Does any one know any thing about it ? Gotta go finish aclimating ,see ya!

Very nice...I see you are a chef...maybe you should open your own restaurant and have a huge tank in the front of the place for all of us to admire... ;)

Had a friend stop over and did some trading so here's some new additions:

New Acan

A couple small candycane frags, one pink, one green striped:

Colin Nice additions. I get first frag of the pink chalice!

I got a free frag, from another forum site, today. A zoa frag. Also, picked up some more blue leg hermits. No one had any peppermint shrimp or aglea blennies.
