New Topic - Electric Bills

That sucks Craig. I've been fortunate so far. We only get a 3 to 6 percent raise a year which I've been lucky to get 6 every year. Plus the promotions to new positions help and I asked and received a 20% increase just this June which really helped. I'm using the money now to try flipping. We bought a 2nd house and hopefully have it done Oct 1st for the market. The price range is in a popular one since the market is so sour for the 225-350K range.

All I can say is you guys are lucky when it comes to power rates... Out here in CA we pay ~11 cent a KW/h for the first 350 KWs then it goes up from there. By the time we hit 1000 KWs in a month we are up to about 37 cents a KW/h. :(

Ok folks thier is something that will lower your electric bill. Go to www.MRDENERGY.com

They have home and business versions. I have bought 3, one for my home and one for each of my resturants. Now it's hard for me to compair home consumtion because I have just moved and moved the device to the new home, but my resturants have definatly lowered consumtion year over year with sales actualy increasing.

Back when I bought it they guarenteed an 8% drop in your consumtion or they would take the unit back and refund all of your money. Cost was about $700.00 installed.

Nice thing about it is you can see it instantly.
I wish I could tell you I knew exactly how it worked, but mabey some of the more techincal people can read about it and expain it to the rest of us.

Thanks for the bump on this, Freed. There is a lot of useful information for the newbies who weren't here for the discussion way back when.

Sounds like the FL rates are similiar to the IL/Chicago rates. Good to know that we are moving to a similiar price gouging!!

One thing we did up here that made an instand $50 difference in the electric bill was to replace all our light bulbs with the new compace flourescent bulbs. It took less than 2 months to make up the cost of the bulbs! I calculated that if all the lights in the house are on (with 2 kids that is a common occurance) we are using just under 1/4 the wattage!!!

For example, our main bath has two 4-bulb light fixtures. Previously there was 75-watt bulbs in each, a whopping 600 watts!! We replaced them with the 13-watt versions and now are using only 104 watts! I did put the 24 watters in at first but the room looked like a tanning booth!!

The only downside of the bulbs is that when you first turn them on they are a little dim and have to "warm up" for a few seconds. They are quiet (not that annoying buzz that older ones had) and you can't tell the difference as far as lighting color.

Just thought I would share.

We move in just under 2 weeks!!!!!!
