I wonder if there's a way to rig it so that they will switch on when you lose power.

I wonder the same thing. My biggest fear is losing power when I'm gone and this wouldn't help in that situation.

I'm switching my RW-15's shortly to MP-40's solely because of the battery backup option.

I checked with Eric from fish street for the wave maker it is auto but for the dc pump you will need to push the button

Ok, just so I'm clear, let's say I'm running RW-15 in W1 mode it will auto kick on if the power goes out?

One thing to keep in mind is that battery is small. If the circuitry is fine though you could put something useful sized connected to it (not in the box though) instead.

3.6 Ah is the rating on that battery, while the Vortech one is 18 Ah.

So 1/3 the price and just shy of 1/8th the amp hour power.. Hmmmm. Not such a great value when you compare dollars to amp hours. Still a good idea for a reasonably priced plug and play pump backup although I would love to see the real world numbers to see if it really can keep the pumps running that long.

I ran a test recently using a 1500Kv APC UPS and using a 10w Koralia, I got around 3 hours run time. That was less than what I had expected but I also suspect the APC has better batteries than this backup. Still, this is a smart investment for anybody that has reason to be concerned with power outages.

I have my return pump, 1 power head and a heater all plugged into a computer back up, I get 6 hours when the power goes out, I don't have any worries now when the power goes off.

I got the toy and they provided a cable whereby you can attach the 24v power supply from the jebao wave maker to make the pump run at 24v if not it will be running at 12v
