New Toy - Nikon D60

I just bought a New Nikon D60 with a 18-55mm VR lens from Best Buy. After everything charges I will get some first shots with it. Eventually I would like to get the 105mm Micro lens but its more than what I paid for this kit .

Any suggestion with the 18-55 lens for taking good pictures in the tank?

Tripod!!!!!

:D

LOL! Deja Vu

Yes I have a crappy one but its works. If you remember Jesse, some time ago I was asking for help on deciding about a SLR camera.

Yes, I remember. I really don't know the d60 set-up but look at the sticky up top of the main photography forum page. With a true macro or a regular lens, the tripod is one of the most important items.

Load the software that came with the camera in your computer. This should allow you to take pics in RAW, and adjust the WB on the pc.

ONe of my best shots so far

Suggestions?

Nice job with that pic. I just got a D60 from the circuit city going out of business sale and am also really happy with it so far.

I'd like to get a good lens that'd give larger depth of field while still being close up. It'd be awesome to have the whole polyp in focus rather than just the one "slice" of it.

I am not able to see any EXIF info in your pic. That would help a lot when suggesting any alternate exposure concepts.

Offhand I have issues with your focal plane settting and DOF. Even though I am a Canon guy, I think your camera is capable of better.

You may want to adjust the F-stop to get more of the coral in focus.

That's still a really nice image though.

EXIF Info? PLease explain. I am new to photography, 2 days....

Digital photos can have information embedded in them besides the image data. Info such as image title, description, exposure data, time and date of the shot and contact info for the photographer are often available.

I might have set the focal plane around the mouth at one o'clock and used a higher fstop to get more of the raised portion in focus.

Your shot is nice too though showing off the eyes near the rim.

How do I setup my camera to do this, Embed the image data?

Also thanks for the suggestions, I will try these tonight :)

You're welcome.

The camera usually adds date / time and exposure info to each shot without needing to be set up to do so. There may be other user settable items (such as camera owner) in the menu system on the camera.

Other fields are usually populated during post processing. In Photoshop there is the File Info menu item which gives one access to all the info.

Some image manipulation programs don't support / maintain / export EXIF info.

Save the images to jpeg insted of gif. I believe the data is removed when saving to gif.

I am doing this but still no EFIX data.

I am using Adobe Elements 7 and Loading RAW iamges into it. Post processing then saving it. Still not working.

Are you perchance doing Save For Web? If so, that doesn't seem to export EXIF info. Do a Save As, specify jpg file type and then save.
