For all the people who have been asking me where I got my WavySea at....it looks like they are finally available here at the retail level! I saw the WavySea at WWW.FishSupply.Com It is a very cool controllable wavemaker similar to a seaswirl. Controls the left and right, 360 degree, how fast it goes and so much more....blah blah blah. Super good at creating random flow. A couple of weeks into owning mine it gets a thumbs up. Check out my tank build up log below for better pictures.

There not that expensive. On sale for $239 and change. Just a little more than a sea swirl, but more compact and way more controllable.

Thanks for the good review James, I ordered two of them to play with. I got them from www.aquariumspecialty.com . They seem really versatile as a sump return, CL, or attach a powerhead. Or even submerge a ph and hook it to the inlet (so you can hide the big ugly ph).

I think if the durability is there, these things are WAY worth it.

So it's a 1" inlet and 3/4" outlet?

If so, interesting. I wonder how it would hold up to pressure. Currently I have an Iwaki 100RLT as my return pump from my basement. It's pushing a good 1400gph into my tank. Once it reaches the tank I T off the return and have it flow through two cheap homemade penductors. I wonder how this guy would work in that kind of setup.

Looks like a computer controlled sea swirl. My sea swirls work great, with there rotation there is not really any reason to need to be able to controll them.

Tony,

Its smaller. A plus.

Its easier to mount. A plus.

Its controllable. All left. All right. Range of motion. Very much a plus. Customize it to the tanks needs. Place it in the center of the tank 360 degrees. Place it in the corners and have it only go 240 degrees or even less. Moving to slow. Speed it up. The amount of combos you can think of is a good thing. Corals not liking it...slow it down. Don't like it going just one direction switch it to left then right. Lots of versatility. Sea swirl thought of it first. Wavy sea seams to have done it alot better. FYI I've had a seaswirl and it is good product. I just hated how big it seemed.

I use mine with a Velocity t4 pump. Approx 1200 gph with two feet of head on a closed loop. Handles it fine, but may be close to the max that it should based off of the flow coming out. 1400 would be at the highest I'd recomend. And only in a larger tank or BB tank. Give it a try and give us some feed back. I couldn't find a manufacturer recomended amount.

Also 1" inch PVC fits onto the Wavysea....so there are some customizing potential there too.

looks interesting

BlueStag: did you pick this up from the store or order it and have it shipped because im in irvine and would love to check that shop out??? cb

The build quality looks excellent, but the price is a bit steep. Not say it is not worth it, but it is definately not a entry level item. :) I think I have less invested in all the powerheads in my tank (4 Seios).

Looks very nice! I think I'm going to treat myself to one in a couple of weeks.

Cambarr they have one at Seaside fish store in HB, Beach Blvd and Atlanta. They have it on a couple of displays there.

I agree it's not entry level equipment. Anything with a controller is usually for the in too deep reefer(sigh where does all the money go) and not the beginner. LOL. It's a nice option for someone who wants a wavemaking device, and had their eye on a sea swirl. For a little extra, you get a lot. I would think SPS reefers will like this very much.

umm..nice toy !

Wonder how many of these I would need on my 118g tank for a good flow ?

Also, they seem to fit easily on a Euro-brace ?

I'm wondering what would be a better option:

1) Closed-loop with oceansmotions 4-way and Reeflo Dart

or

2) 4 of these wavy things setup with Maxi-jets 1200

I'll keep the thread updated after I get them. At $250, if it works well, I think its a great deal. I think the big Q is how much GPH it can handle. Its hard to recommend this over a CL with a Dart because a Dart puts out a LOT of flow. If this could handle 1,200-1,400 then this would be a GREAT option. Also easier and MUCH more adjustable.

I've had a few SS's and didn't care for the clunkiness, always thought they could be more solid, they can get a little noisy, and certainly aren't as programmable as a unit like this. It is a good product, this just seems like a great product. My new tank is braceless and I think these will look really slick on top.

Well, I got one on order right now... According to the company that sells them it can push 2,300 gal/hour. That's quite amazing. They didn't specifically say it could deal with the back pressure a penductor creates, but they also didn't say it couldn't deal with it. I'm going to try this one with a penductor and see how it works. Should be here in the next couple of days. I'll let everyone know how it pans out.

What size seaswirls did you have? I have 2 3/4" on a T4 closed loop.
The thing I like about Seswirl is they are made right here with great cust support.
Your new toy looks nice.

For those who have owned SS - then this unit, they are in different leagues altogether. Everything from construction to functionality to packaging to ease of mounting. They are not cheap, but when compared to a SS, this is worlds apart. I think this will be able to handle as much flow as a 1" SS, and its not really that much more. Its almost completely silent.

Of course durability will be the question, and customer service, but looking at the detail that went into this unit, I'm going to guess both will be there. At LEAST as much as a SS.

Here are the pix out of the box - they should be entirely plumbed up in a few days!

Also a big thanks to Aquarium Specialty, they were very nice and got it here very quickly.

This thing is really fun. Its a pretty ingenious mounting unit, this pic shows how you flip the "U" either horiz or vert for rimless/or bracing. I'm tellin ya, whoever owned this wrote down everything they HATED about the SS and changed it.
