New used 90G possibly in wall...

Well guys I have been de-motivated for too long trying to nurse back my old tank. I went out and found this 90g glass tank on craigslist.

I know the back glass is not tempered so I am planning on drilling it for overflows. I am thinking of using 2x1" overflows drilled through the back on the right and left sides. Low profile covers. With ball valves closed down so the water level is about 3" higher than the tube. They are supposed to be dead silent I plan on having one extra tube fully open above the water line but below the top of the tank, in case something were to get plugged.

I need some help setting up the filtration and dosing. My setup now doesn't seem to be working.

I will be ready to drill the glass soon so let me know what you all think.

Also, I have the opportunity to go in-wall. Any reasons you guys reccomend against this...

So think I have it now. On the back wall i will drill for 2 overflows in the bottom corners. Not sure whether to use 1" or 1.5 " pvc though? any suggestions from people with 90 or 120 AGA's?

For the return I was going to drill the back wall near the top slightly offset from the center, 2 more holes for 1" returns. I was going to run a 1" SCWD until I can afford an ocean motions... Iwaki wmd40rlt for the return/sump.

For flow I have 2 tunze 6065 and a vortech mp40W.

So all I really need to do is decide if the 1" overflows are enough or if I should go 1.5"???

I would go 1.5. You can always restrict it a bit but can't increase if the volume is too small. Just my two cents. GL Owen

Having a larger diameter output pipe than input makes a lot of sense, especially when the input pipe is pressurized (by the return pump) and the output pipe is gravity fed.

Good to hear from you Owen!

Owen nice to hear from you. That is the tank I am thinking about going to once all my issues are resolved. Just big enough but not overwelming. I don't have any suggestions but I will be following for the future...Good Luck.

Owen,

I am right down the street from you, if you need any help let me know. I also vote for 1.5" over flow.

ps. Us guys in Windsor need to step up because Petaluma is moving ahead FAST in Grant fashion... lol
