just wana let u know the im using a netgear 85 mbps powerline network adapter all it is is 2 units the plug in to power one to ur main router and the othere one to ur apex ..no setup required.here is the model # xetb1oo1

85$ at comp usa it works just like a bridge..

I think the reason that technology wasn't included is because if power goes out in your house, your Apex is SOL. A game adapter can be put on a UPS (as can your other network gear) so an email can go out, assuming your external network is still up (like DSL).

At least that's my understanding. If that's not correct, let me know and I'll include it. It's a good solution other than the power problem.

Powerline, aka HomePlug is truly plug ‘n play in some cases. With most, like the Linksys models, the configuration is quite easy using a supplied Windows utility. Alan, You are 100% correct… HomePlug / PowerLine devices will not work with a UPS. And in some cases, they will not even work with a surge suppressor (cheapie power strips are fine… it’s the higher quality surge suppressor power strips (like the Monster brand A/V models) that present a problem.

But if the loss of network communications during a power outage is not a concern, then they are definitely a viable option... much easier than wireless.

CJ - as you go through your setup and configuration, let me know if there's anything that can be improved in the Handbook. Hopefully it will take you through the process in a logical, step by step order.

Wow! I just took a quick glance through it. 72 pages with an index.. Neptune Systems should pay you and include this with their units!

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks,
CJ

I also got my Apex last week and am configuring the unit. Great help indeed.

By the way, should I update to the 4.02 beta firmware now?

Also I don't think the unit can set to DST, right?

As far as the beta goes, I would. It's had some issues but I think it's pretty stable now. With 4.02 you can backup your program/configuration which I think is significant. Get the network configured with whatever version it ships with then before you start programming, update the firmware.

With 4.02 the Apex can handle DST. It now sync's with a NTP server once a day so it's clock is much more accurate as well.

Could I suggest a revision/date be placed on the cover page - so we can know if we have the latest...this document is very valuable.

Good suggestion. Most recent is V8. You should see that in the file name when you download. It was just posted this past Sunday.

I skimmed through it and what a great resource for Apex owners. Thanks for your time and effort that you put into this handbook.

FYI, on page 32 of the manual:

Consider the following. In this example I want the outlet OFF on every day other than Saturday and Sunday: Set OFF If DoW –MTWTF- Then ON

I believe the outlet OFF shoud read as Outlet ON.
