Second I was about to buy a sequence pump from AZponds, but first I called Sequence Pumps directly and spoke with them. Yes the pumps from AZ ponds can come with the Salt Water seal, however it does not come with the salt water shaft (pvc coated vs. steel), or the salt water hardware (higher grade of stainless) Sequence straight out said, "I would not buy a pump for a salt water application from a pond supply store".

I was under the impression that the valuflo was the same as the reeflo once the saltwater seal was added. Now I'm a bit worried because I have 4 Aspen's with saltwater seals sitting here waiting for my tank to get set up. At least it comes with an 18 month warranty plus an additional 6 months from AZponds. If anything is going to go wrong with the pump I'm sure it will happen while it is still under warranty. BTW, AZponds can't sell the valuflo series with saltwater seals anymore.

Wonder if it's too late to send it back since it's been sitting in the box.

If your pump is from AZponds you won't be able to return it. At the bottom of their Sequence page it says no returns on special order pumps which includes pumps with saltwater seals.

also its not just gravity that feeds the pump intake. A running pump will generate a low pressure area on its intake side.

Why use Sequence and NOT the Dolphin pumps?

i am buying 4-way unit for my 180G setup and will return from underneath my tank. Is this a good choice, the Dolphin 2100 that is.

Thanks.

I just got off the phone with MDM technical support. They said "the MAIN difference between the reeflo and valuflo is the saltwater seal". They also said "the ONLY other difference is the hardware (pump housing)". Apparently the housings on the reeflo's are less corrosive if they come in contact with saltwater. Since my pumps won't be coming in contact with saltwater AND the room will be well ventialated to eliminate humidity I don't think I have anything to worry about.

Why use Sequence and NOT the Dolphin pumps?

I got sick of having to pay $20 to replace leaky seals on my Ampmasters that were still under warranty. This has been a known issue with the Ampmasters. They claim that the "new" Ampmasters don't have this issue. BS, mine WERE the new ones. When you call them to order a replacement seal they tell you it is YOUR fault the seal is leaking because you don't have a prefilter on the intake. Why would you want a prefilter on the intake of a pump and risk restricting the flow to the pump?:rolleye1:

good gripe travis,it's things like this that help others make an informed decision.this is why i chose to try one of the reeflo pumps now it's just a matter of where to get them.i know that custom aquatics has the stingray for $229.00,but i'm not sure i want to put that much into a 120rr oceanic.anyone have any thoughts?

This is good info on these pumps. Slightly off the original topic, but finding a good pump match for these wavemakers is very critical to the overall success of the project.

I would like to hear more about the large flow pumps (>3000 gph).

Hey LB

Hey LB

Lunchbucket,

I've also gotten stuff from plumbingsupply.com and they have good service. I know you were asking earlier about the T's that looked more like Ys? Well, they sell the Y's as well (although not exactly as you described) and I've got a few. Anyways, did you ever think about using the Mak4? They are much cheaper than the Iwaki 55 and give supposedly similar performance. They work fine for me and I know they are fairly reliable and as for the noise issue, they are just as loud/quiet as the Iwakis. The one thing is that the inlet and outlets are 3/4" MPT, so you'll want to convert those to 1" for full performance.

Peace,
John H.

P.S. I took a peak at your setup. It looks like it will be pretty sweet.

rufio173 - thanks buddy! i used the link from weatherson and orderd 4 of those 3outlet 90's. shipped already too :D

i looked at the mak4 AFTER i had already bought the blueline. BUT i had my buddy (Travis) come through and hook me up w/ an Iwaki 55rlt that he was gonna sell. guess that is what local reefer buddies are for :D should be here tomorrow so i will have LOTS MORE FLOW w/ the 55rlt. and if i want i can add the blueline for MORE FLOW ;)

premiumaquatics has teh mak4 for 119..KILLER deal. and yeah i would use 1" for it...3/4 is TOO small...but that is what i am using out of my 4 way :D

i HOPE my set up works out great..it should ;)

i get the keys to my new apt tomorrow...so once i am moved and settled the tank will get moved into the 58gal :D YIPPIE! i'm just a LITTLE excited ;)

Call custom aquatics again and ask them about the Dart model. It's the lowest model Reeflo (still like 3200 gph) . I talked to them on Tuesday and they had just ordered some w/ seals. Said it would be a week. Not sure of price.. I swear the first salesman told me $169, when I called w/ another question the price was $189 and I read somewhere else they were $149

Pumps

Pumps

I think you really bother too much if the pump has a coated shaft and such kind of stuff.
I would be really happy if I could buy a sequence pump. In Europe you pay at least 3 or 4 times more for the same type of pumps.
But I use for more the 2 years now a central heating pump 100% steel. And until now I did not have problems.

Travis how much does your 75 tank weigh. Will I need to put more floor support for a 75.

Depends on how you feel about it. I'm not sure what the weight is. I'm guessing with saltwater, sand, and rock it is around 500-600 lbs. Not much different than 2 large people standing beside each other. I currently have mine on the second floor of an old apartment building. Also, it is not by a load bearing wall either. Haven't had a single problem with the weight for the last 2 years.

However, I am a huge fan of overegineering for safety so if it were in a house I would make sure the floor was structurally sound enough to handle at least 2x the weight.

If you check building codes, anything built after something like 1940 should be able to hold your tank, I thought I had mine on a load-bearing wall, but it ended up being above a large open space in the apartment below mine and I didn't have any problems.
