Here is the movie.
Note: I have the tank only partially filled so you can see some of the outlets at work better, however there are still a few invisible in the movie including the spraybar..

All in all there are 14 outlets going through the 8-way OceansMotions, two on the right side, 4 on the back, 2 on the left side, 4 above the tank, and two 1" outlets feeding the spraybar.

These things sound great, I'm thinking I gotta get me one of these...

But there's got to be something that's not quite right with them, no product's ever perfect. So to those of you that already have one of these units, what could be better with them, or what problems have you had with them?

They could be free :) But seriously;

I had a little problem with it tolerating a small initial sandstorm, but it was covered 150 % under warranty.

The drum jammed. I got the sand flushed out and have had no other problems.

The motor draws way too many watts for my taste. I think I measured it at about 3 watts, wide open. Ha ha!

The spacing of the outlets on the 8 way is a little close. Once I got a handle on what fittings to use in what combination, I appreciate the compactness that was achieved by Paul's design.

The revolutions are pretty cool too. Just wish he had the 1" ones ready.

Paul is sincerely trying to make these things as close to perfect as he can, IMHO. Small changes are being tested and implemented as we speak.

Thanks acrosteve:
I'm also wondering about the revolutions, and whether they will be prone to getting stuck, or just stop revolving like they're supposed to. But it may take more time to find those things out.

Still, I like the sound of these units. I'm considering the 8 way version for an 8' tank I'm planning, with several of the revolutions. Was palnning on some sea swirls and Tunze turbelle streams, but maybe this is the better way to go.

Edit: I'm deleting this post. I posted a problem I had with my 4-way. Paul saw the post and told me to call him. Even at 12AM.:eek2: We talked about it and it turned out to be the fittings I was using and not the 4-way.

Thanks Paul. What can I say... Your service is top notch.:)

Travis: One thought that may help would be to use sylicone instead of teflon. It seals fitting better and easily peels away if it doesn't work out.

These look great. Is there any potential for a snail to cause a problem if it were to find it's way up any of the returns to the OC drum?

Ok i am convinced i want one....I think i am going to go with the 4-way... Its going into a 55gal corner... Will a Mag9.5 run this okay? I do not need mass amounts of flow, but would this be good? Also the tank is acr. so its not hard to drill holes in acr tanks? Without cracking or anything? Please let me...thanks.

Also can this be run on closed loop or do i need it in-line with my sump...also where would i hook up my uv? Would it be better to go with a closed loop or run it through the sump....All help is greatly appercaited!

I would think if you did the closed loop and you could have the pump close to water level w/ little head loss that might be an ideal setup for your tank. Otherwise using it as your return it might be pointless to go w/ an oceanmotions as you could achieve the same amt. of flow from a scwd. I could be wrong but, it seems the reason to get one is you can run any amt. of gph through them verses a scwd which has a max of 1400 gph. Most people run them w/ large pumps.

I have been talking with paul, and i am waiting for the new 4-way version to come out. I will be running on a closed loop. THanks.

New 4-way?

yes it is going to be cheaper then the orignal 4-way...and should be able to handle up to 1300gph, he thinks more but he gave me that as a safe figure....
He is also coming out with a Nano version!!!! He says it should be good for tanks that are 5-20gal. So that is something to look forward to for alot of people.

I can not wait to get the new 4-four way...I told him i wanted to be first on his list.

Ok, im a noobie so go easy on the lashings. I am in the mist of upgrading my 55 gallon reef to a 120. I have a 150 gallon rubbermaid sump in my basement and I purchased a Sequence Hammerhead to use as my return from my sump.. My question is this.. In my 120 cant I just use all the pre-drilled holes as drains and connect the Hammerhead directly to the 4/8 way system for the return? Again I am very new to this so this may be a rediculous question..

Thanks

Brian

coondogg, that sounds reasonable to me as long as the bulkheads can handle the flow.

How many and what size?

Does anybody know when the smaller version of the 4 way will be available and how much they will be?

Are these the same motors they use for the microwave turntables?

Peace,
John H.

WOW! That's all I can say right now... I just hooked up my 4-way Oceans Motions unit to my Ampmaster 3000 , removed all my Power heads and just admire the chaotic water movements across my reef tank without all those PH'S hanging around I was afraid that the ampmaster 3000 would be overkill for my mostly softies 90G,but it's just right. but giving credit where credit is due Paul at Oceans Motions deserves it! in purchasing his 4-way OM is the best investment I did so far and Paul's service's is top notch!

I just finished hooking up and testing the HD 4-way with my ampmaster and i'm VERY happy with the results! Very well built and gives lots of chaotic flow to my old (soon to be re-created) 190 gallon cube tank. I'll post a few plumbing pics for the pvc fetishists...
