Hey guys....just wanted to let you all know that I added both stores to the map.

Please feel free to update the profiles with any missing information.

Reviews are good too!

looks like bromion is a PhD CS student.

im biochem. what are you?

Yep, I'm at UCLA in the computer science department. I study vision (http://vision.ucla.edu). Cool to find some other UCLA students here. Maybe there should be a UCLA reefers club : )

Well ya know...pricing for a LFS in the westside is gonna be problematic. The overhead is probably high....so IMO they're gonna have to concentrate on high end, high quality...the problem is that LA area reefers are cognizant of the proximity of the wholesalers and what the pricing is....35 bux is high for a yellow tang though....

I checked out Reef Hot Spot on Saturday and DAYUM, I have NEVER seen that many freakin' clams of THAT size (and for such a good price), and SO healthy looking, too! Very impressive setup.

Lol, if they are carrying Elos then they are obviously targeting the Brentwood/gentrified Venice demographic and not RC value shoppers. Highly doubt if $35 a fish would be a big deal to them.

I visited Medusa on Sunday. Looks like a nice store that I'll be sure to check out again.

Definitely try Reef Hot Spot. It's huge! Good prices, too, with a big focus on reef-safe items.

I visited both today for the first time. I definitely recommend Reef Hot Spot. The owner was very nice and accomodating as I took my time browsing their live stock. The store's only been up and running for a couple of months and open to walk in for a couple of weeks, but their pricing and selection is pretty impressive so far ($30 for Med Croceas, $40 for larger for example). He says he plans on concentrating on SPS as they are his personal favorite. I picked up a couple of nice rics and a favia.

Medusa was ok. As others have stated, prices are pretty high ($20 for percula & common firefish). Their round coral display tank is nice with some very nice teardrop baby maximas, but other than that nothing special.

I will definitely continue to visit Reef Hot Spot whenever I'm on the westside.

i dropped by reef hot spot today. place is pretty cool and the owner is a genuine good guy and very knowledgeable. i ended up picking up a couple larger acro frags. by frags i really mean small colonies. one of the frags is about 4 inches tall. prices are halfway decent. The owner said that he goes to the wholesale wherehouses basically every day and they get shipiments in several times a week. plans for the place are pretty big. place gets my thumbs up.
