New wild colony found aefw on it ... What to do?

Yeah either plumb in a separate tank and run it from a filter sock or isolate it in some sort of bin. It's not fun having them, but it's not the end of the world. Just more work. They also don't go crazy and attack everything at once. They tend to migrate back to specific colonies. I was able to keep them under control by basting everything and dipping specific colonies. It's a risk that's for sure, but they are still just a slug like creature not the predator.. They don't have free swimming larvae they lay eggs where they feed.

Don't get me wrong I am 100% better off without them now..but I wouldn't avoid something I really wanted because it had them more so if it was a wild piece and not something I can get a frag from at another time or from another source.

Thanks guys what I ended up doing is dipped it with hater and revive ... Looked over it with a magnifying glass found no more eggs and went over entire colony with soft tooth brush I've been inspecting every chance I get I hope it's good I may pull it and set up qaur damn

Beyer dip once a week for 4-5 weeks. Easy to kill AEFW. The key is multiple dips to catch the little ones before they lay eggs. You can make a gallon of dip and do all acros if your worried. If you see eggs, superglue over the. If there's a spot in the acro you can't see, fill it with super glue.

I've murdered hundreds if not thousands of those bastards.

Revive is awesome and not harsh if you use it correctly.

Reefers that buy wild pieces that are scared of pests, in turn that have no qt setup make me confused. I use another one of my tanks for qt and worry about pests but how am I going to enjoy the hobby if I am scared of things that come with it? I have delt with flatworms but they aren't too hard to get rid of if you can pull all your corals easily, and are willing to put the work in. They are nasty little sneaky pieces of nature and will hide on the backside of a colony in your tank like they know your there watching!
Honestly I have seen more pests in my club and at most local fish stores than on ANY of the wild pieces I have ever bought. The places I get mine from are pretty good at taking care of them. Some reefers I have noticed are only about money and making profit, in turn don't care if they have pests and are spreading them.
I have a qt process and if I get a pest I am ready to deal with it. As should every reefer who buys coral, period. Even if they are buying from "trusted club members" your chances are not dwindled. Unless its a friend and you know their reefing practices and trust them.
JAustin that is good advice.

Thanks Piper27.

Good advice from you too. If I had the space for an acro qt I would do that in a heart beat.

Next best thing is to beyer dip once a week for 4-5 weeks. I leave the new frags/colonies on the sand bed away from other sps. Not the best suction but it's worked well for me this far.

AEFW are hard pressed to colony jump. They prefer to stay where the food is so catching them with beyer on day one and then nuking the babies once a week there after works well.

The other key to this is thin super glue where you can't see or where there are eggs. Seal in the freshness. And the acro will re-encrust over the glue with ease.

Bottom line!

Inspect and dip. Several dips. One is NOT good enough.

+1 on this. +3 on revive. Revive took care of everything for me.

After being on week 6 of dipping all my acro's every week and having them in a QT tank that's not very stable (stn issues from alk bouncing), I will never put another acro directly into my tank. I dip and inspect everything and I still got AEFW. If I found an amazing piece I'd put it in qt after fragging off the base and watch it for 3+ weeks with a few dips here or there to see what's tagging along. They can hide eggs where you cant see on the rock below the coral, they don't always put them in the coral.

I'm crossing my fingers for you, i know people "live" with them, but they seem to be VERY healthy tanks with pro acro growers managing them. I don't have the gift of keeping acro's perfect color and growing like weeds, so aefw really tear my acro's apart.

Bottom line, no way i'd ever put something that had an aefw on it in my DT without multiple dips and qt. Your really living dangerously imo.

good luck, hope yours is better than mine was!

My sentiments and experience. Hence I wouldn't want another reefer to go through what I went through. And that is why I made the earlier post.
