New Yellow Tang eats everything?

Just got a new yellow tang into the quarantine tank. This guy is a complete pig. Gave him some hikari seaweed pellets and he inhales every single pellet in the tank. How much is too much? If he continues to eat it all should i keep feeding him? Also I have hikari small marine pellets that I feed the fish in the main display tank. Should I be feeding the tank both the regular pellets as well as the seaweed pellets? Ratio?

Thanks

They tend to graze and will just keep eating and eating till they explode.

Give him a Grazer they are harder and will keep him busy also if you have algae in your DT pull some out and put in with him this will get him use to eating it also mine eats cheato if you have some of that growing add some as well a good mixed diet is the best option.

lucky! not all tangs eat right away. Try to feed varied diet is the best for any fish, don't limit them to pellets, feed a decent amount of frozen, nori, etc as well.

In QT, I typically feed fish as much as they will eat. Never had one eat itself to death. All my zebrasomas are swimming garbage cans FWIW.

thanks guys ... as always this forum is just a huge help.

stevenliu9 I had the LFS feed the tank of tangs before purchasing to make sure I got a good eater... I've done this with all my fish after not doing it when I picked up 2 ocellaris clowns and had a hard time getting them to start eating...

I was also going to pick up a kole tang but the LFS didn't have 1 that even remotely seemed interested in food.

I am a bit worried at this point though as I have the yellow tang in QT right now once he's in the DT I plan on picking up a kole tang who will undergo 7 weeks in QT and then to the DT I've been told there shouldn't be any issues with adding the kole tang after the yellow tang but i'm still a bit nervous.

Any thoughts on this portion?

If you feed a lot make sure you keep up on your water changes in QT.

I added a tomini tang to my 150g tank with an 4in established yellow tang. They squabbled for a few days and now theyre best buds. I might have put a mirror on the side of the tank for a day or two to distract the yellow tang.

YT will reserve most of its acrimony for a fellow zebrasoma, but there certainly could be some aimed at the kole. As long as you are running fish through QT, it should be strong enough to withstand a few days of tussles.

Depends on how you run your QT. Assuming we're just talking about fish, water changes on a cycled QT are unnecessary as a matter of routine. Cannot recall the last time I did one, and it was probably to clear a medication. I feed my QT tanks multiple times a day too. Fish don't care about nitrates or phosphates.
