New York State Fair

Believe it or not, I've never been.

Looks like you figured out what I'm doing with the family tomorrow. Thanks Gary! :)

bring a camera!

bring a camera!

make sure to get a shot of the kids standing next to a cow ;)

you won't believe how many types of rabbits, chickens, pigeons (etc.) there are!

I go to it every year. It just left our area. Just nice to get out and walk around and have some clean fun. Kinda sucks it gets to you guys when colder weather sprouts up tho.

I'm there daily. I march in the 6pm parade and have a camper set up to relax it. I do that on top of working. It's quick easy money with The Island Band(band I'm in). It's great this year, some new foods, venues, shows, and overall entertainment. Also, ABC Reef's is right around the corner. Jump on 695 to Fairmount, take a left on Gennesee(sp?) drive down about 1 1/2 miles, left after Staples, on the right in the first plaza.

I grew up very close to the GREAT NYS. Lived there as a little kid and loved it! As I aged and my eyes to the world began to open, I grew to dispise it. Hadn't been in years. My wife begged me to go just to "people watch".

Now, I love sharks, but I don't wanna swim in the shark tank with bull sharks, the uber-predator, diesel shark. So, it stands to reason, I love a dirt-bag with a mean mullet, in cut-off jean shorts and high top Reeboks, just as much as the next guy. I just don't wanna be in a confined area with uber-dirt-bag's all around me. CAN'T TAKE IT!

I made it about 45 minutes the last time I went with my wife. I held my own until I saw the crowd part. A rather obese woman in skin tight sweat pants, wearing a pink cowboy hat came driving thru in her Hover-round. As she got closer I saw the gaggle of kids she had in tow. The breaking point came when I noticed she was carrying a baby bottle on her massive thigh. It was being held in place by having it wedged up under her massive overlapping stomach. That was it.......MELTDOWN!!!!! Haven't been back since!

We play upbeat music. Tequila, margaritaville, gimme some lovin, flinestones, along with some patriotic songs. We are a marching parade band, we march around the state all summer.

the fair is great ! i went the first day . going mon, wed , fri, and the last day . also if i get bored we will get in the car and check it out then too ! i like it ,its different and my wife loves it so we both have a good time . the weekdays we go at suppertime and eat then walk a zillion miles drink a few smirinoffs and go home by nine .

$1.00 per ride ticket most 5-7 tickets per ride $7 per sasauge sandwich ouch easy way to dump a few hundred dollars with the family. Drunks bumping into the little ones skin showing where and when there should not be, gitty fans exct. Music was nice not many nifty things to buy to comercial same ole same ole each building. I should have skipped it and went to ABC. No cool animals this year eather bummer.
But wait this is the REEF CLUB and if $300 for a frag is nothing then the fair is a sneeze. Go spend enjoy then go to ABC or go there first have them hold and grab on the way out.
The kids saw lizzrds for sale and wanted to drag them around someone should have a game for clowns or frags. HA HA Enjoy the Fair. Can you tell I did not have fun.

and somehow you WILL have a good time .skin showing where and when it shoukd not be, whats that? do you have a pulse ?and of corse i know you had fun ,look at all the stories that you have to tell .

It used to be tradition that on the last day of the fair a bunch of guys would go to the fair and drink like soldiers on leave!! Then we decided to dress the part and wear bad t-shirts with the sleeves cut off, jean shorts, big mirrored sunglasses, cowboy hats, misc. facial hair etc. We would act like fools and have a blast, then we'd go to the demolition derby and be rowdy betting on who would win. Me and my handle bar mustache made a cool penny on many a race!!!

FYI they stop selling beer at 9:30, and many a deal can be made for multiple beverages on the last day!!!

It's all what you make it.

Nice Mark! But you do realize, we live in CNY. Majority of fair is for the country folk, hence why they all come out in the thousands. Half of Oswego County has emptied out because of the fair. I actually go Mullet hunting when I get the chance. Some let you take pictures, when you ask others they get P'd off. Regardless of the people, that's just how it goes. Cheap entertainment! I would not fair well on the red carpet with Paris Hilton and all the spoiled little...eh hem. Anyways! I love the the fair, even with the scum. It just makes it more interesting and fun, so look and move along.

Just got back from the fair, 8 days left which means 9 more parades, 8 more stand ups and plenty of fair food left to eat. The weather looks good from Monday on!

I guess I'm learning something here

I guess I'm learning something here

folks that live near the fairgrounds appear to attend the fair on multiple days each year whereas folks from outlying areas (Rochester, Buffalo) probably only go one day (if any) on any given year.

You folks from Syracuse region- ever been to the Erie County Fair?

I love the fair! I wouldn't be surprised if I have spent a year of my life on the fair grounds, it has to be close. Spent the entire length of fair working in the youth building as a 4Her for many years then as a 4H leader for a few, and have ran a ton of programs there in the off season. Good time! If you have kids you should definately check out the youth building, there are always lots of fun things going on.

A trip to the fair isn't complete IMO without a trip to "A family affair" which is located next to indian village behind the horse barns. Its open 24/7 and the food is really good. I used to get a milkshake from them everynight. Also the meat on a stick vendor is amazing too, I like their shrimp.

The best part about working at the fair was that it was so much crazy work that even after eating horribly for two weeks I would still have lost about 10-15 pounds. Good times. I will be going up on Friday.

just got home from the fair stuffed full of fair food and out a few bucks but had a blast me and the wife did .we actually spent some time in the youth center ,it was raining a bit so we needed some cover .other than food we did nothing and it will be time to sleep wery soon , good supper !

Gary, I new a guy who bought into the bungie jump "ride" a few years ago. He would go to the ECF then follow them over to the NYS fair in CNY. Im pretty sure its still the same fair. And my brother lives in cuse but was up here for a wedding and went to the ECF, and said it was exactly the same this year and was mad he spent the money again at home.
