Newbi question on breeding

brodden

Hey guys, I have read through the breeding threads some and I find the whole concept very fascinating. I have two false perculas (i think) that are mated. I have had them for about 1 1/2 years and I'd say they have been mated for most of that time. I don't think they have ever spawned. I was just curious what I need to do to entice them to spawn. Is it just something that takes time?

Thanks!

Time, good water quality, and frequent feedings of varied high quality foods. What are feeding them now?

I feed them 1/2 a brine shrimp or mysis shrimp cube and a couple of pinches of marine pellets a day. I usually do the brine and occasionally do the mysis.

Do more of the mysis than the brine ;) Also start feeding them 3 to 4 times a day. Fatten them up a bit, but don't feed so much that you end up with uneaten food at the bottom of the tank ;)

A couple things to try
1. Keep your temperature around 82-84 unless you have corals.
2. Increase the light period. (Both temp in lighting think it's time for phyto and zoo plankton blooms).
3. Enrich some brine with Selcon for feed. (They think it's a zoo plankton bloom).
4. Slowly lower the salinity close to 1.020.
