newbie gfo question

So I am new to gfo. I have a hair algae outbreak and doing the normal things ie reduced feedings, lighting, and adding a brs gfo reactor. Apparently over the last week I had the flow a tad too high in the chamber and the gfo grinded itself out into the tank. A couple questions:

1. Will this cause any harm to corals, fish, inverts?
2. The manuals I've read say to have enough flow so that the top of the gfo is moving. How is it best to gauge that? Also, even with my apparent too much flow, I have a large clump in the reactor that is not even moving.

Currently I am using 3/4 of a cup. It has been in the reactor for a couple of weeks. I plan on swapping it out for a new batch after new years.

you should be fine with water changes. make sure the output of the reactor goes to your skimmer section. a light tumble is fine, make sure the granules are flowing, bottom to top.

I'm such a goof! I don't know how I got it in my head that only the surface should tumble. That's why its been clumping up on me. Do you think I should go ahead and replace my gfo or leave it for another week?
