Hi Friends,

Need some ID's please, this is day 18 of my setup and cannot ID these things. Any help or advise is much appreciated. Thank you!

#1: This is a crabby i found that has a bluish hue to him and is light brown, hairy and about the size of a quarter. He only has one claw and he came with my live rock. Not sure what happened to his claw.

#2: This is i believe white sponge, but not sure. Its been like that since i got the rock and it hasnt gotten better or worse.

#3: This is an anenome type thing that has bulbed tips that come to a sharp point. If disturbed or touched it will backs up into the rock as much as it can and shrivels up. its purplish in color and kinda see through.

#4 and finally, i beleive this is a eunicid worm :mad2:, it has four to five whiskers around his head and looks like a centipede with lots of little legs. Hes about as thick as angel hair pasta and i found another one much much smaller than him but looks exactly the same.

Thanks again for all the help.

Not sure about your crab in #1. Best way to determine friend/for is to look at claws. There should be tons of info on here about it. #2 does look like some sort of sponge. #3 looks like some sort of anemone, not quite an aiptasia though. I got the same ones on my caribbean liverock and never found out what they were. Last one looks/sounds like a eunice to me, but I don't know from personal experience.

I found a dead gorilla crab on day 5 or 6 and seen that those have pointy black tipped claws. This crab does not. The one pincher he has doesnt come to a point, its more curved

I agree with sellers on #3. I had one of those on my TBS rock, everyone that saw it screamed "Aiptasia get rid of it!", but it was just happy where it was and never took over the tank. The Caribbean variety looks similar but doesn't spread. I don't know that I would trust my ID unless you know for certain where the rock came from though.

#1 definitely looks like a gorilla crab to me.

1) remove/destroy the crab
2) enjoy the sponge
3) enjoy - but carefully monitor the anemone for spreading/invasion
4) setup traps for the worms and give them to somebody who wants them or wait and see how they do/what they do.

thanks guys, #1 doesnt seem like a gorilla b/c it doesnt have the black tips on the claws, do all gorillas have that? and how do you make a trap for worms? I know i have a mantis about 1/2 inch long and was gonna setup a trap for that, would it be the same kind of trap? They are not on the same rock.

I did monitor the worm and he only comes out of his hole half way and collects bigger pieces of sand/coral shell to "cover" the hole he comes out of. He re-emerges from a different hole and watched him - what looked like biting - on a nearby colony of hard polyp coral that was already dead.
