I thought it was about time I showed you guys/gals some pics. When I first got into this hobby you all were the first group of people who really helped me on my quest to keep a reef tank. So far so good. I apologise in advance for the quality of the pics - I am using a 3 year old point and shoot digi cam and the aqua sun bulbs I have give off a pink hue. It is hard to correct back to what the eye sees when looking into the tank...here goes

this one I also got this weekend - In person it is a pale blue and sorta pink - hard to get the colors correct. the pieces of sand are from my blennie :mad:

The brain is approx 5-6 inches wide it has grown a good bit since I got it

I also have a large green bubble tip that I have yet to get a good pic of. It is approx 12" in diameter and has a 3 1/2 inch gold stripe maroon hosting in it. I (like most people in this group) also have several frags of mels zoas. I think I have 4 differant types of your zoas mel. all of which are doing well. And the spaghetti leather you gave me is getting huge.

I just want to say thanks to all of you that have helped me while setting up this tank. I couldn't have done it without your advice.
 
Mount the Mussids (1st post, 2nd and 4th picture) to the rockwork, they need something to encrust on to in order to grow. Nice pieces BTW.

I just got the 2 and 4 pic yesturday so I haven't decided where to put them yet. DOes anyone know what the 4 pic is? Maybe some type of micro?

Nice additions... Looks like Mel had you pegged when she said you were starting an LPS tank... ;) Love pic 2 BTW... Thanks for sharing!!! Oh, and pic 4 looks like either an Acan or Micro... Hard to tell what it is right now... Polyps should extend in a few days to a week... Oh... And they love to eat!!!
 
I'd have to say Favia on #4 (pretty sure it isn't anything along the lines of micro/acan by polyp structure, but it could be just the shot... Got any scale shots or fully open?). #7/8 is a weed;). Nice looking coral. I had one encrust in less than two weeks and it grows like mad.
 
Thanks guys! I didn't think it was acan because the polyps are much smaller. I thought maybe micro or favia family - the favia family is so confusing to me. It just went into the tank yesturday so no polyp extension yet. I am going to mount it but I just don't know where yet.

Yeh I think Mel was right - I believe it will be a LPS dominated tank. It is getting that way fast!!
 
#4 could be an Acan, but if it is, it isn't very happy in the picture. Zooming in on it helps. Camera shy maybe? Corallite structure is close, but I don't see any septal teeth. Give it a week or so in low light and try to entice it with some cyclopeze or other frozen food at night. If the feeders come out, it'll likely survive.

Woo hoo! LPS dominated. Now you need to make Scott give you some of my galaxia fragments. That thing would look really great in an LPS dominated tank. It's a really deep green tentacled variety.

Man...you are going to have to try to start fragging that spaghetti leather! hah hah.
 
Yeh I will frag some for the frag swap in august. The frag you cut me was huge and it has done very well, Thanks mel!! The evil yellow polyps you gave me are kept in check by the anemone I got from cagdas. every time they start to spread the nem swells up and takes care of them. It's kinda a nice automatic "weed" eater!!
 
Yeh that does kinda look like it - I guess that's the difference between vho's and mh + the stress of shipping. Maybe it will come around.

I'm starting to think my MH's are too strong... :( Hopefully the new bulbs will help... It took almost a week before my Acans would open up and look good... Give it some time...

Wild colonies seem to need lots of blue spectrum to hold their phosphorescent qualities, and we recommend that the corals should be kept under 20 K Halides to represent their best colors."

Also did you use a flash when you took your pictures... that will wash out colors as well.
