Hey, looks like you did very well battling the algae monster. Bravo! I think it looks great, although a little bare (to me anyway). Drop in a few more rocks/corals as well as a background as mentioned above. Blue/Black, up to you.

+1 on more live rock. Spend $100 and get a nice size interesting piece. The nice thing about rocks is they don't die and will add to the look of the tank for many years.

What an improvement! Way to stick with it and get it looking great! Lot's of potential to fill it up now!

thanks everyone, i have been battle the algae from the beginning. the first 3 weeks, i kept pulling them out as much as i could, water change about 10% every week. then i added a DIY sump/refugium. i put some of the base rocks with tons o algae down to get it started. i added some chaeto (slow growth because too much of nuisance algae). at the same time i run a phosban reactor with phosban from 2 little fishes. i just received some HC GFO from bulkreefsupply. i will change out the media today.

my suggestion for starters would be, please set up a DIY refugium/sump from the get go. or at least have a phosban reactor. don't way until you have the problem and try to battle it. i spent at least 3 hrs everyday the first 3 weeks to pull the algae out. oh, patience will help too. oh, RO/DI water for everything.

Should i upgrade my light? i have 4 55w PC right now. thanks.

4 55w pc lights? soo over 200 wats on a 30 gallon? now some people might say pc isn very powerfull, but since your tank isnt not a tall tank you have pretty strong lights. dont upgrade IMO

yes, i have 220 W of PC over a 29 gallons tank. so about 7.6 WpG. i want to keep a clam, but everyone say that PC will not do it. i am not sure i can keep other SPS besides monti cap either. my LPS love it those. i just got 2 more LPS from blue zoo aquatics (a torch and a ancora) yay. so you think i should not upgrade the light at all? thanks

I just want to say that I love your lr arch! Is it one curved piece or is there a third rock balanced on the two base ones? And the difference between now and several months ago is amazing. I'd decide on exactly what livestock you want before contemplating changing over the lights because that much PC wattage might just do you fine, especially if the light lovers are nearer the top. How deep is a 55G, anyhow?

I would consider using a light meter to check your Par from your lights - probably borrowing one. Only then you would truly know If you could keep the more light demanding stuff. I would agree you have plenty of light for every thing up to less demanding lps maybe some simple sps like birdsnest up on top. Then again I'm no expert, I say this from experience. As far from bulbs I found that the 50/50 bulbs put out more par than any other pc bulb. I used all 50/50's Its bright.

lets see the tank is 18 inches tall, i have 2 inches of sand so about 16 inches to top of water. yes, i have lps. my bubble, lobo brain, and platygyra (maze brain) are doing fine. i just added a torch and a ancora. i have xenia and they love the light (double in size within 2 months. i have finger leather, which is also very happy (got from it for free from my office's tank). assorted zoanthids. and a monti cap, doing ok. it is hard to tell the monti is growing or not. i think my tank is LPS dominant. maybe i should try a birdnet. as for clam, i love the maxima.........but (light is an issue).

haha, yes, eventually i will put a background on. i totally forgot about that. i think my tank will look better because everyone will see the corals better.

covenant, the arch is built out of 3 pieces of rocks. they are balancing without any structure or glue. one of the best way to max out your rocks, hihihi. i am not sure how may lbs of rock i have in there. i received them from a friend.

I don't think you could get away with a clam with PCs, but that is just my opinion. I think 18" is really too deep for PCs for that reason. Haven't head of anyone doing that.

What kind of skimmer do you use, do you like it?
Also I'be had my tank almost the same amt of time as you, and I still have gotten no serious algae bloom is that common?
