Chips like that are dangerous. The slightest bit of bow and it can turn into a real crack. How large is the hole? Is it in a visible section? IIRC, Martin Moe's book, The Marine Aquarium Reference, talks about how to patch glass. I know, 'gasp' at the thought of even attempting it. It used to be a lot more common than it is these days. I've seen a handful of tanks with successful patches. ...just an idea I thought I might throw out... I don't know if I would do it myself. The book is amazingly cheap these days though - only a few dollars. It might be worth a quick glance at that section before deciding to buy a replacement tank.

On another note - here's a thread that shows how to use a photobucket account (http://www.marinecolorado.org/forums/showthread.php?t=271). You might find that more convenient since you wouldn't have to worry as much about size limits on your photos.

That's a little more better. I wish i had a better camera. The hole is 2 in. I was hopping to re drill a 64mm hole to remove the chips and go with a 1.25 bulkhead. What does anybody think about that.

Oh yea can i change the title of this tread i think i covered that part of it?

2" is big! That was with a diamond hole saw or carbide?

One of the difficult parts about redrilling will be keeping it cool. Maybe you could tape off the back side well so the hole would hold water while you drill? I don't know - just tossing out ideas. Another difficulty in terms of redrilling is being so close to the edge. I can almost guarantee that the vibrations of redrilling within 1/4" of the existing hole is going to make things much worse and possibly cause a serious crack. Personally, I would not redrill.

I noticed that you are going to be putting an overflow box around it. I would patch it (what can I say, I'm a cheap skate). Buy a piece of glass, say, 1/4" thick x 10" tall by 4" wide (as wide as it can be). Drill it then put it over that hole using silicone hiding the patch inside the overflow box. I would install the overflow panes at the same time so all the silicone cures at once. If the tank had actually cracked while you were drilling I wouldn't give the same recommendation.

If you don't get input here that makes you comfortable I would contact the Wet Web Media crew and ask them for their advice.

That was a tungsten carbide. made by rem grit. The bit is for tile and yea 2in. is big the bulk heads i found are massive. that hole is for a 1 in. bulkhead. thank you for the info.
