Newly overhauled 15g

Hello folks,
My 15 gallon high just reached its 6 month bday and it had certainly seen better days, so I pretty much restarted the tank. "Pretty much restarted" means that I removed a few bad rocks that were covered in algae and leaking phosphates/nitrates, removed the old sand and put in new sand, and added a skimmer. The skimmer is a Remora with a Maxi1200, I'm sure some of you will recognize it right away since it is truely being used as a HOB!

I have a slightly larger thread on a different site, so I won't post all of the pictures here.

The "After" picture was taken the next morning, sorry for not cleaning the front glass! Hopefully I'll have a few more pictures this next weekend when I switch to a 150W Metal Halide canopy and a CLS, rather than the 3x 28W PCs and 3 powerheads! I still need to figure out how to conceal the MJ better though.

Cheers,
Marty

I had not thought about putting the heater in the skimmer body, I will do that this weekend when I go home.

The current lighting is an old CSL pendant with 3x 28W Power Compacts. This will only be on until this weekend when my 150W metal halide canopy will go on.

Okay, another update. I added the new canopy which has a 150W metal halide with a 14k Phoenix bulb. I may add a single 10K PC bulb for dawn/dusk lighting, as the MH is only on for 6 hours right now. There are also some PC fans in the canopy and I am currently working on some "moonlights" as well.

The screens are for acclimation, I'll remove one layer per week. The height of the MH is adjustable, though I doubt I'll lower it at all.

where did you get that light

That is a 150W retrofit kit from Illuming. I am using the 14k Phoenix bulb, couldn't be happier with the color! I may try a 10k bulb in the future, just to see what type of growth difference there is.

I like the idea of overhauling the tank once a year, especially if the overhaul includes upgrades. :)
