Hello
I have had a 14g biocube with 48w pc lighting for two and a half years now and have had a lot of good luck with softies and LPS's.
I recently had 19 dollars left on a gift certificate for petsolution after I ordered a couple other corals. So I figured I would try to spend it on a small frag of some sort.
I ended up buying a piece of acropora. I know they need strong lighting but I am hoping If I place it high enough in the tank I might have luck.

Can anyone ID this variety and suggest any specific care?
Do I have to worry about chemical warfare between these and these and softies.

any info would be appreciated

Here is a photo 3 hours after being placed in the tank.

good luck with your first sps, but i can't imagine it doing very well with just pc lighting. i hope you do regular water changes also as i imagine you dont have a protein skimmer in your biocube. hope it works out for you though.

vmartino, Maybe I will try a small frag of monti If I see one for a good price!

Thanks for the great link, mpoletti.

Whisperer, are you saying that "A. abrotanoidesis" is what I have or what I should try?

macreefster, no skimmer ,but I do weekly water changes.

Thanks everyone. It is lookin good! Nice and fuzzy.

Tell me, are the white tips a sign of growth or a sign that tissue is receeding?

There are small polyps at the very tips!

Looks like a stylophora to me, and not particularly happy. The white on the tips appears to be receding tissue.

thanks whisperer?

NCNBilly, I also thought it was receding tissue but now I am noticing small polyps starting to sprout from the "skeleton"

Great - sounds like it's working out for you!

Here are a few more shots , you might be able to see the new polyps .
They look a lot fuzzier with out the flash and in real life,

I swear I am seeing alot of growth but maybe it is just wishfull thinking. It's only been two weeks.
