This is primarily due to the IRS looking at BAR and this forum during our application for NPO status. We had to switch to 501c3 because, among other things, there were too many sales and group buy threads which means that the club seems to exist to benefit the member, not to benefit the organization (club). A 501c3 is supposed to work for the benefit of the organization. Most NPO reef clubs should really be 501c4, but the IRS doesn't seem to look too closely at clubs after NPO status has been granted.
