Nice new Picasso

I just got this fella from a friend who was breaking down his tank. He was going to give me the pair, but tragically, the female jumped a few days before he got them out. He has had them for years, so it was probably the stress of the tank being broken down that somehow spooked her. I can only imagine how nice her coloration was.

He seems content with the CB ocellaris that was alone in this tank. I can't tell yet if the O is a female or if the male picasso is having gender change ideas. He is slightly larger than her.

I'm not sure what I want to do long term for a mate for him. Pairing him with this unspectacular fish seems not quite right.

Excuse the pictures, I am having a hard time getting one that really shows him off well.

I wonder if the puzzle pieces would fit together? :D

I'm so sad that the breeding pair got broken up I was planning to raise the eggs as soon as they laid in my tank. As I understand it they were wild caught before the picasso craze hit the hobby an dthe female was just as nice as the male.

Done. I have "walls" that sit on the eurobracing and go all the way around the tank so the fish would have to jump 2 feet straight up to get out.

I'm bad with size estimation, maybe 2.5" ? He is full grown for a male perc. I think the previous owner had him for 3 years.

SWEET!! i would personally go for a different mate.. try to find a nice onyx or another picasso.. awesome clown though!

id pair that with a rodonyx or one of those snowflake/perc hybrids like Embryoguy has.

what a beauty

Wow now that one does have the markings that look like a puzzle peice... Nice fish and I love the markings on the jigsaws...

WOW...that clown is suhhweeet. im especially liking the way he looks with the puzzle pieces and the large white dot on his chest. very interesting clown. good luck and keep us posted as to what you pair him with.

this proves to me that there are potentially many many amazing clowns that belong to hobbyist that just consider them regular "nemos".

did your freind pick them bec they were diff. or just recd them randomly.

He is a store owner and apparently picked the two best out of a group that came in that way. He said he ordered more, but they came in as normal clowns. I told him what sort of $ he could get selling them, but he wanted them to go to a tank he knew.

Has anyone else ever seen white and black on the (Hmmm fish anatomy.. what are those bottom front fins called? caudal? pelvic?...) whatever. It seems to be only on one side and hard to get a pic of.

Edit: ventral or pelvic, I'm still not sure after checking a book

i see it in one of your pics. its an amazing fish.

ive seen and have so many onyx that the only thing that gets my attention now are clowns like yours :)

its just stunning.

wow cindy! I never even knew there was a clown floating around here that looked like that! very very nice!!!!! The white spot on the pelvic fin is a very nice touch too!

Do you still have that one you got from AA? I'd pair it with that one :)

the wc Picassoy looking one that I got a few months ago did not make it through QT :( He got some sort of mouth fungs.

The WC onyx is still doing well, but has really bleached out colors from the BTA he is in.
