Ricordea ... if you can see it thru the algae

Looking good, seems to be progressing well. Grabbing a few Turbo snails could help knock out that algae. I have two I could lend you if you need.

Looks good. Careful with those kenyas. They will drop babies all over your beautiful rock and take over your real estate. If you are into the softies, I have some shrooms and gsp you can have.

Tank details:
40g Breeder (36" x 18" x 16")
36" Aquatinics TX5
Aqua C Remora
Reef Crystals

I got 5 astrea snails and 5 little hermits yesterday. Trying to get my clean up crew dialed in. Hopefully I will have time this weekend to setup the hang on fuge I got.

I don't love the kenya trees / softies. Got them from a free from guy going SPS who wanted them out of his tank. Would be happy to trade them away. They have plumped up nicely in the 2 weeks that I've had them.

The LR and fish are from Westport Aquarium. I really like it in there they always seem to have healthy fish and they get small juveniles. I saw two gorgeous quarter sized coral beauties in there yesterday. If I didn't already have my tang I would have bought one in a second. Prices are more reasonable than Greenwich Aquaria.

What kind of filtration are you using.I want to set a 40b but don't know how to start or get parts for a sump, overflow, skimmers.

I've got about 50 lbs of Live Rock, the AquaC Remora Hang on Skimmer and a Little Hang on Fuge I just setup on Saturday for filtration. No sump I wanted to keep my first tank as simple as possible. The 40b is a great size (even though I'm already dreaming of the day when I have space for a nice wide 6' tank) perfect for a first reef tank for me.

The tang is from Westport Aquarium and is a Ctenochaetus trunctatus.

Any opinions on what to add as my next fish? I want to keep the tank lightly stocked but I do want 1 or 2 more fish. I'm very tempted to try and ORA Mandarin in a few months.

I'd definitely hold off on those mandarins until your tank is very well established. Not for the usual reason - that they need a lot of 'pods. As you know, These exciting new ORA offering eat prepared foods. Instead the problem is that they are still pigs, requiring lots of food.

I'd love one myself. But in a 29g it would be pretty hard to keep the fish well fed and also keep nitrates and phosphates low.

IMO I'd look for some fish that require a bit less food, which is almost anything, assuming similar size.

Looking much better now Nick. It's all coming together. I think they make a surface skimmer box for the Remora, it will help if you are getting a ton of surface film. Your corals look pretty happy to me. Good job.

I have the prefilter box, bought it when I got the skimmer but it just takes up sooo much room in my small tank. I get nice dark skimmate without it though. I took some pictures of the new frags I got from you Joe but they ended up blurry, everything seems happy though.

Looking good Nick!

Watch that butterfly, mine was a model citizen until I put Acans into my tank. Hope he works out for you. I'm sure all your aptasia is gone tho :) Frags look very happy, good job!

what is that a small copperband i see in that last pic.. how's it doing eating good have youhad it for a while...looking good...

I've only had him since Friday. He is picking at rocks and eating some stuff there although not my aipastias yet. I've been trying to get him to eat prepared foods and he seems more interested as he gets comfortable but he isn't really eating yet. I could have sworn I saw him take a pellet off the sand last night but maybe he just at a pod that was checking out the pellet.

Try mysis shrimp, that was the only food my Copperband would eat (PE Mysis). I had no luck getting him to eat pellets.

I feed the tank frozen mysis and rod's food on alternating days. If he doesn't take some frozen in the next few days I will try a little clam or mussel with the shell. I know that naturally this fish doesn't take fish from the water column it likes to pick at stuff.

Lost the Copperband yesterday after 9 days - he never ate anything no matter what I tried :( guess that's just the story sometimes with these fish
In other news my aptasia has spread like crazy in the last 10 days. I was afraid to use Joe's Juice and have the butterfly eat it.
