Niger Trigger compatibility

Wanted to update

I added the fish and haven't had any problems! I feed him twice a day and haven't seen any agression signs!

I need to upgrade my tank, been dreaming of a 200gal cube...

I see it's been another 10 months since your update, I'm happy it's been good so far. My first tank almost 30 years ago started with a niger, picasso, and undulated. Since then I've had most triggers except for a crosshatch or titan. My experience has been when they are smaller they can be rather communal and be ok in smaller tanks. But around 5 or so inches they need a much larger tank and I wouldn't trust any trigger with a shrimp, a goby, or a mandarin. The niger was my favorite of all time, he suddenly went blind after I had him for at least 7 or so years.

55 gallon reef tank

55 gallon reef tank

I have a 55 gallon reef tank with mostly soft corals and lps I currently have two ocellaris clowns and planning on getting a mandarin draggonnet and a six line and finally a niger trigger as my final fish I was just wandering if my fish would do fine if Introduced them in that order and if they would be ok. (I've kept all these fish before just never in the same tank)

I would reccomend making your own thread, but I say no. A niger trigger is a big fish that needs room.. I would not keep one in a 55. I would get at least a 6' 125g.

My Niger grew quickly to 6+ inches. I think a 55 would be too small. He, however, got along fine with the rest of my fish: 5-7 tangs, 2 clowns, pj cardinals, diamond goby, flame angel, copperband.

I was gonna get him as juvenile 2-3 and move him into my 120 gallon later

even a 120g is too small as they get larger. It's a better idea to wait until you have the larger tank before you get the fish that needs the room. I depressingly large number of tank upgrades happen much later than planned or not at all.
