i saw a beautiful Niger Trigger at the LFS today so i came home and looked it up in my "Marine Fishes" book by Scott Michael....it says they grow to 19.7" and can go in a 75 gal tank...

seems like he'd eventually be kinda cramped in a 75... do they just not require much swimming space??

Does it really say that?

If so I am surprised so many people use that as a good reference. 75 gallon tanks are usually what, about 4 feet long? There is no way that would work, unless there was absolutely nothing else in the tank (no animals, rock, anything). Even then it wouldn't be a good idea.

for a full grown one i would say 300G. IDK who is dumb enought to keep a 19.7 inch fish in a 75G

i agree,,, just surprised that the book said would be OK..... wondered if there was a valid reason for saying it would work in a 75....

Does the book say they hibernate most of their lives? If so then maybe it would work, lol.

This is by far the weak point of that book; if you ask Scott, he'll tell you the same thing. There are numerous reasons for it, and I've detailed them in a lot of other threads (and I just don't have the energy to go through all of it now).

I wouldn't do it.

i went back and looked and it actually says "minimum aquarium size 75gal."

to me "that's" still saying it's ok to put them in a 75.....

but i'm with ya'll,, they would seem to need MUCH more space.....

i was just getting a second opinion on it..... i WON'T be getting one....
