Niger trigger will not stop jumping out of tank.

My wife and I are sitting here watching game of thrones and my Niger trigger has jumped out 6 times tonight. He finds a small hole in the back of the canopy that the wiring comes through and keeps going for it. I've had him for a few months and tonight is the first night he has been doing this. Anyone have any idea why?

I would check the tank and water ASAP - something is wrong. Fish don't jump with such dedication for fun but rather to escape danger.

Is anyone attacking it? Forcing it to the surface? You could try putting clear wrap over the hole temporarily

Nothing is attacking it. It jumped once this morning and I watch it before and during the jumping. He is swimming into the full force of the gyre then swimming straight up and shooting out of that corner. Not sure why it's doing this

Fish sometimes behave oddly to us, but I would rule out a predator, water quality / heating, something startling him, etc... Just to err on the side of caution.

I experienced this as soon as the lights went out with a couple of fish. Turns out I had a large swimmer (crab). No wonder they were petrified.

Hope you sort out the issue.

Last it jumped was yesterday afternoon. It's been jumping with the blues only on and also with the whites on so I don't think the lighting has anything to do with it

The mystery may never be answered. He jumped out against last night and i believe my cat found him and made sure no trace was left behind. i hate this he was my favorite fish.

slightly good news! i found the trigger behind the toilet almost completely dried out. he was somehow still alive... i put him back in the tank and he seems to be moving around. hope he will make it...
