Night mode for wave makers?

Do you guys turn down your wave maker pumps at night time? I have been turning them down manually as I am not happy with ecotech night mode that changes to a constant speed instead of keeping it in the mode I have selected (random). I know I can buy a module for my apex to control them through that, but is it even really necessary? Or do you all just leave them in whatever mode and cranked up all the time?

I use the night mode you don't like. It works great. All the SPS have maximum polyp extension so I feed them at night.

Any body else?

I have been thinking about tides and wondering if it's possible to emulate them? And if it's even worth it? It's seems that in the shallow reef the current would switch directions every 6 hours, but maybe that is not necessary either in a relatively small tank. Just thinking out an seeing what other people are doing. That new wave maker I saw on brs tv might be capable of switching direction, I will have to look at it at MACNA...

I only turn down my retun pumps and power heads when feeding pappone every 15 days. night mod will allow sps to extend there feeder pylops
hope this helps

I have been turning them down at night, I just am not that impressed with the fact that "night mode on the vortechs is a constant speed. I set them at maybe 50% max speed at night, and I get full polyp extension with feeders out. I asked about leaving them at a higher rate at night because of Jackson's tank where his vortechs are cranked (during the day) and PE is ridiculous. He has tons of flow, and it even looks like the feeders are out (during the day!). I will have to post on his thread...

Generating a gyre that reverses every 6 hours and 12 minutes would do the trick for simulating tides, if you so choose.

Sooo... I totally experimented this last night and put my 2 MP's on Night Mode and turned my Jebao 10/40 off.. The polyp extension was quite nice, I must say. Broadcast-ed some Acropower and Reef Frenzy about an hour after the lights dimmed down to a moonlight.

Think I'm going to try it for a week and experiment a bit!
