nigripe or melanopus?

I think this is a melanopus but it's hard to judge body shape for me with so small a fish. Sorry about the quality of the pic, hopefully I'll get a better pic soon.

Didn't you raise some baby nigripes?

David M in the breeders forum posted some pics of some baby nigripes that he raised. If I remember right, they had black pectoral and anal fins at a very young age and if I remember correctly, the babies only had head bars and didn't develop the 3 bars like tomato complex babies.
Here's the thread: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=670890

So, I would say melanopus if that is my only choice. :D

Mike is the one who raised gripe babies. I do have a bunch of pics though! I guess I should have thought about that. The pics were just after mmp and they had typical single head stripe just like all skunks. I should have thought of that.

You choices aren't limited! If you think it is something else please chime right in.

I was just joking around. Juvenile clowns are difficult. Does it have black ventral fins? (I can't tell from the pic) If it doesn't, is there a reason that you think it is melanopus vs. frenatus?

yep. very black. in fact they are fully extended in the picture. That's why I was sure it wasn't a frenatus

pretty sure it's not a 'gripe. That was my first thought but I forgot I have a stash of gripes pics.

These guys were just settled and none had any residual stripes at all.
