I think this is a melanopus but it's hard to judge body shape for me with so small a fish. Sorry about the quality of the pic, hopefully I'll get a better pic soon.
David M in the breeders forum posted some pics of some baby nigripes that he raised. If I remember right, they had black pectoral and anal fins at a very young age and if I remember correctly, the babies only had head bars and didn't develop the 3 bars like tomato complex babies.

So, I would say melanopus if that is my only choice.
Mike is the one who raised gripe babies. I do have a bunch of pics though! I guess I should have thought about that. The pics were just after mmp and they had typical single head stripe just like all skunks. I should have thought of that.

I was just joking around. Juvenile clowns are difficult. Does it have black ventral fins? (I can't tell from the pic) If it doesn't, is there a reason that you think it is melanopus vs. frenatus?
