Do these shots represent the closet / most viewfinder filling you can do with the lens or were you holding back a bit?

The colors seems off to me. How are you white balancing the shots?

This is about as close as I can get with the lense, about 9-10" from the end.

The colors are accurate accept for the last one of the birdsnest. The white balance is through the camera with it set to vivid. I have a tough time getting good color reproduction because of the Radium bulbs, the blues in my tank look violet.

I've had much better luck under other lamps. The first three photos where under an XM 10,000k, it's the best lamp for photos imo. I guess it has a pretty good CRI.

Thanks. Just curious. Shots #2 and 3 look closer visually than I can get with my 100mm lens.

Have you tried shooting in RAW mode and setting the color temperature in post processing? You'll get much more accurate colors with whatever lighting you may have going on.

Nice corals BTW.

Thanks Reef Bass. My brother-in-law has tried to talk me in to using RAW but from what I understand you need Photoshop or a similar program to do the post processing. I'm not very experienced and I don't think I have the time to learn that right now.

Are there any tutorial threads on using RAW on RC?

There's not much to tutorial about. Set the camera to store images in RAW. When opening the RAW image in post production software, move the color temperature slider until things look right.

I'm not a Nikon user, but usually there is software that comes with the camera that will do this.
