How is the quality of Digital cameras like the Nikon 5600 or other brands when its used underwater compared not underwater?

Seems that they were designed for dry conditions but a few models had the option for an underwater housing. Didnt know how much this affects the picture quality when taken underwater.

Their quality is excellent!

However, in addition to the camera, you will need an underwater housing and a strobe (Flash) to illuminate the subject.

As with any hobby, you can spend as little as 200-300 on a housing, or several thousand dollars on a nice rig.

Depending on the camera and strength of the strobe, you can do some amazing things. Even little digital point and shoot cameras work well for many subjects. You're not going to get a nice panoramic reef shot nor the scales on a grouper though.

My girlfriend dives with a Canon SD550, using a Canon housing and the internal flash. She's come away with some nice pictures. Nothing macro mind you, but nice.

I use a Canon Rebel XT in an Ikelite housing. It has a lot more versatility, but also cost quite a bit more.

Several on-line vendors sell and specialize in underwater camera gear. One of my favorites is B & H Photo. They are on the web.

Give it a try.... it changes your diving and adds a fun aspect you can share with your friends.
