Nikon Capture NX2??

Anyone use the Nikon Capture NX2 software to edit pictures. It is about $30 off right now and had thought about getting it in the past, but I would like any opinions. The video samples showing someone editing pictures looks really neat.

I have the trial version that came with my new D90, don't care much for it. I'll be buying Photoshop CS4, but for now I use Photo-Brush which is really nice and only costs $49.

NX will give you great colors...but

If your used to Adobe PS you will find it slow and awkward, at least I do. Although I own it, find that I rarely use it.

I have both Capture NX 2 and Photoshop CS4. Photoshop is indeed faster, and there are just some things you cannot do in NX 2 regarding added effects or artistic expression, but I do 90% of my post processing in NX2. I think you trade speed for quality of results in this case. Once you learn the interface NX2 can't be beat for Nikon Raw processing. There are good books and tutorials out there to make learning NX2 a bit easier. If I had to get rid of one or the other, I think I would drop Photoshop before NX 2.

Well, right now I only have photoshop elements 6. It does not recongize the raw photos from my card. I never installed the program provided by Nikon with my D40x, it will probably work with Raw photos though. Picassa2 recognizes them and lets me make some adjustments I noticed today. I just started shooting in Raw mode just to see what I could do with them. Thanks for the help.

Hey Beerguy, thanks for the tip. I have had elements for a while, but I have lots to learn about it. Thanks again.

I use NX2 and I prefer it to PS. I think it's much easier to use and although it's a little slower I find its tools and interface get the job done faster. I really like the black, white and neutral control points and the D lighting adjustment.

It doesn't have as much as PS as far as "artistic" editing goes but I find it does a better job with daily editing requirements such as WB, lighting, contrast and color.

Well, I downloaded the free trial version the other day for NX2 and after reading through some of the examples I have edited a few pics and have liked the results. It probably is a little slow, but so am I when it comes to understanding the process so I really don't notice it much. I was wrong on the version of elements I had....I have 4 instead of 6. I think I am going to use it for my sorting purposes, but I downloaded and followed all the instructions for the RAW add on and it would not work. So for now I am using NX2 to edit my RAW pics.

I see that the price of NX2 will go back to regular price on the first of January, so I need to decide pretty quick. Thanks for the help guys. After playing with NX2 some I am really leaning towards it. This might be swayed by the fact that I never learned a lot of the Elements program details and can't really compare it to something from the past I really really like.
