Nikon D70s macro lens suggestions

It appears after looking that only sigma and others make the 1.8 50mm in a macro.... and it is closer to $200 even used.

So to start off I can buy the 50mm 1.8 and get some decent fish shots.... I can then save up and get the 105mm If I feel I need it, and then add the no VR zoom in a year or two to round out my bag?

Does this sound like a Plan or am I missing something? My crummy 28-80 does not do macro.

Yes, the 50mm f/1.8 is a terrific lense for the money. If you get a reverse ring, it ccan do macro as well.
Here are some fish shot.

And if you get the 105mm macro, you can get a 52-52mm ring and attached them two together face to face and get 2x magnification.

Those 50mm shts are the lens alone, or the lens reversed with another lens? Sorry to be so stupid, but the whole "reverse lens" thing lost me. (I understand the concept, but not the details with the nikon equipment).

I also imagine that the 50mm fixed length lens will be somewhat sharper than the 28-80 set at 50? If nothing else it is faster, and I do understnad that.

Thanks

Sorry for that confusion. Somehow I messed up on the link and when I tried to edit it, the picture showed on the bottom instead.
All the fish shots are with 50mm f/1.8.
The GSP shot is with the 105 attached with 50mm.
Prime lenses are mostly better than zoom. Zoom is conveniet but you lose some sharpness.

I would say (the primes are sharper), because the fish photos with the nikkor 28-80 have not been as sharp as yours with the 50.

It's hard to pass up those 50mm primes, but that still leaves me without a macro, and that is something I have an itch to do (take tank photos).

Well, then I suggest you get the 105mm micro. You wont regret it.
The 50mm f/1.8 is only a hundred bucks as well so get bought.
And with an SB800 flash, you can impress your family with portrait photo.
Man, I'm starting to sound like a saleperson.
I'm not.

outa my price range $1000 just isnt going to happen.... I dont even have the VR zoon yet and I am crying over $700 for that.

Wanted to bump this topic.

Someone once told me about getting some sort of filter than can turn your lens into a macro-like lens.

Certainly not as impressive as the true macro lenses, but it will be good for beginners or those of us who are on a budget and only want a few nice shots.

Anyone?

They were probably talking about something like this.

Yeah, thats it!

Is it worth the $? What sizes are best?

Any info is appreciated.

I have the sigma 50mm 2.8 macro. It does a excellent job, the bokeh on this lens is unreal. I wish it was a little longer and might be a challenge for those who have very deep tanks but for me it is not a problem. It is on clearance at amazon.com right now for $200 with free shipping, what a awesome deal!!!

I also didn't want to spend a ton of cash and I couldn't be happier with my choice, the 50mm macro is the only non-nikon lens I own.

If you end up getting a diopter type filter instead of a dedicated macro lens like the one jamesccho linked to the diopters are good bang for the buck- but if you can get $200 together I'd recommend that first.

Just a quick question about close up lenses, do they come in diferent diameters? is it better to have on for a 50 mm1.4 or for a 18-200 Vr?
