I really want a Nikon D50 but they are expensive so the next camera is a Nikon Coolpix P3. Is it a good camera? And does any body have any good shots with this camera? Any macro shots? thanks

Well if you are in the market for a DSLR, I dont see how a small point and click digital camera will make you happy. I would wait and save up for a used DSLR. Maybe a D40?

get it. in the dslr world, what really matters is the lense. unless you're into more buttons and other extra (ex. vertical grips)

I would have a look at the dpreview website for good info on just about anything.

You do need to decide if you really want SLR or if you will be happy with a PS. The Coolpix do get great reviews.

well i went to dpreviews and i found specs and a review, but i was looking for personal experiences, i have looked for the d50 a lot and have found expensive ones that only include the body. do you guys know a website that has them with the kit lenses included for a good price? or even better would be if i could do it in payments.at the end of the month i will be getting $90 for my allowance ( i'm only 15 ) and i could use that for the downpayment. and they each month pay some of he cmera off. thanks.

Your best bet would be to get the kit at a local ritz camera and have your parents co-sign the credit app. You would be getting off to a good start with credit and learning to budget responsibly.

The D50 is a great camera.

thanks for the help, i will probably be getting the nikon d50 if my parents are cool with the price. which they probably be.

whats the average going price for a d50, I found one that seemed cheap but was refurbished

wait.... now I'm thinking it wasn't refurbished, but open box...

EDIT: ok, just found it online for under $300, can that be right!!??

If you check the prices at BandH and then cameto camera, you will get an idea of the going price. Anything less than those two sites is likely to be scammy.

well beananimal i went to ritzcamera.com and looked for a D50and there were none, so I called them and they said they don't carry them because they have been discontinued???? is this true? and now where am i going to get my camera in payments?

They were rumored to be discontinued... but I have heard otherwise as well. The D70 prices are down where the D50 was. I do not have an answer for you regerding where to purchase with payments. You may have to work a deal with your parents where they buy it and you pay them. There are still plenty of d50s out there even if they have been discontinued. The D70 is a good choice as is the D40. I would opt for the D70 over the D40 but both are great cameras and a large step above a point and shoot. You may also look at some of the lower end canon DSLRs if you do not have your mind set on Nikon.

Did you try the store locator to see if there is a brick and mortar in your area?

Ritz Camera on line and their brick & mortar stores have a strange relationship. If you call the online store they will deny having any direct connection with the brick & mortar's even though they furnish a store locator on the website. The online store has not carried the D50 for sometime but the brick & mortar's have been running them at $450.00 for the body and $550 with a below average 18-55mm. I know here in the cities I have been to 4 of their stores in the past two weeks and they are all well stocked on the D50.

Yes we have several local Ritz stores and they all have them in stock still.

The funny part is that they all come from the same warehouse (brick and mortar and etail). Many times they will not price match with the website either... crazy.

i found a d70 for 460. really good price. but will the same lenses work? or do you need to use ifferent ones? thanks

Going price for a used D70 is around $300 for the body only. Lots of them on ebay.

I just upgraded from a D70 to a D80 so have been researching prices on D70 bodies lately.

really? the prices i found on ebay are very high. i guess i will take another look. thanks for the help.
oh and about the lenses, do they have to use different lenses.
