Nitrates Jumped from 0 to 30 PPM in two weeks?

FYI - no big surprise but when I retested the water that Elos showed 7 ppm on it came up 30 ppm with API. Anyone want a 3 mos old API nitrate test kit cheap? :D

"By the way, this is Joe...but you can call me Paul or you can call me Sam...but ya doesn't has to call me Johnson"

Classic Sanford and Son!

By the way as far as test kits goes, API seems only good for high range PH(saltwater)

Brian....I'll trade you my brand new off the shelf test kit for your 3 month old kit. Yours gives lower results! ;)

This wasn't Sanford and Son. At least I never saw this skit done there.
I saw this done on comedy shows by a stand up comic.
Anybody remember his name? Of course, this was a looooooong time ago.

I've used API for Calcium and Alk for about 1 1/2 years (backed up by other brand test kits) and never had a problem. Nitrates? That's a different story.

Hopefully that wasnt the anthias that jumped out and onto the concrete floor when I was there. I bought the others that didnt jump. ps. they just put him back in.... :(

Ray J Johnson was a character of stand up comedian Bill Saluga. I remeber him from a beer commercial! Loved it! My older brother and I used to recite it constantly!

And the winner is...

Ginger for correctly identifying the source of the "You an call me Ray" skit. That doubles her prize money from yesterday's show and brings her cash a prizes total to, hmmm, is this right, one three month old API nitrate test kit?

Is this getting a too gamey? :D

Hey Scott

The remining five females are all doing well. It seems like with anthias I have to buy a couple more than I want to end up with for the long haul. They are nice...

They've integrated nicely with my other high reef schooling fish. The chromis showed them that Hikari pellet food is almost as good as Sanjay mix. When my autofeeder goes off its pretty impressive.

I'm actually enjoying my fish as much as my corals these days.

Brian - Beautiful fish. Funny how some of us reefers hardly pay attention to our fish. I got a bunch of fish thru Sam and another bunch thru Mikey and now my tank is not just a coral tank.

Ginger - congratulations on winning that booby prize.

Brian those are awesome looking.
I recently bought 4 Pink Anthias and lost them all.
But the batch of 18 that came in most didnt make it Im not sure why they were really healthy and nice looking.
I love the schooling fish Mine hooked up with my Chromis and it looked pretty cool while it lasted.

Thanks Joe

Hey Paul

Pink anthias? Do you mean female lyretales?

In the pics above the purple one is the male lyretail the orange ones are the famales. I think orange lyretails without the extended dorsal fin are juvenile that can become either male or female.

I've also seen lyretails where the female is a much lighter orange (pink) and the male is a much lighter purple. I'm guessing they are collected from somewhere else.

Wow, Brian....the anthias in the first pic is beautiful. But he looks a bit evil in that pic.
So.....can I donate my prize to the raffle table at the meeting this month? ; )

Ginger - Thanks, FYI - the pearlberry you and Jonathan sent my way is starting to color up. It was not a happy camper.

Tim - I got them about a month ago now. Check with Kyle about more. I think he said they were from Fiji. They were a very good deal. The females were $20 each or seven for $80.

Kevin - that clears it up. And your prize is :D

Sheila - Joe's already in enough trouble with his mother for hiding vodka in the fish cabinet. For some strange reason she doesn't believe its for the fish :D He does poor a mean glass of cabernet.

Hey Brian, I have two lyretales. One is a larger dominant one with a extended dorsal fin, but no where near the color of yours. I've had them for about 6 months now. Do I need another to get him to be a super male like that?
