NJD Reefer 250

It's been a long time since my 75 gallon reef tank was taken down. I'm here to get back into the hobby and see what I can make of it. I've done a lot of research and saved up some money to get the best. This will mainly be for me to keep track of my tank's progress but also for input (hopefully). This is the list I have so far. Thoughts and suggestions appreciated. I will post pics as they come in. I'm looking to keep LPS and low light SPS.

-Red Sea Reefer 250
-Sicce 3.0 return pump
-2x Hydra 26 HD and mounts
-EcoTech Marine mp40wqd (apparently the 10wqd doesn't fit the glass)
-Nyos Quantum 120 Protein Skimmer
-80lbs of Reef Cleaners Florida Dry Rock
-60 lbs Caribsea Arag-Alive! Reef Sand.
-Red Sea Coral Pro Salt Mix

These are my clown pair that I have now... one of a kind female (Picasso mix bred at Roger Williams Uni), paired with a black and white. I hope to move them to my new tank.

Just ordered the 80lbs of reef cleaners Florida dry rock. Should be coming in next week. Haven't heard from Marine Depot about the delivery date of the reefer. I'll post picks when it comes.

Congrats on the new tank! I have the RedSea 170 that's been up and running nicely for 9 months now, and love it. I'm also a returning hobbyist. Welcome back! :)

Thanks! I was hoping that I posted this in the right section.

In other news I have a delivery date of the 28th of December... So now I wait.

Just received my dry rock from Reef Cleaners. I got a 50lbs box and a 30lbs box for 150$, free shipping. Overall I'm happy with the rock, it definitely needs to be rinsed though, a lot of sand and broken pieces. The shapes are very good and it came with a variety of sizes. The rock is soft but very porous. Here are some pics!

Set up my ro/di reservoir last night with drain pipes (no drilling). Left is freshwater, right is saltwater.

Looks great. You will love the red sea tank. It's excellently built. Your equipment list looks great. Lots of people in broadfield red sea thread use the nyos skimmer with good results. I have the mp40wqd and it's a great powerhead. I may add one smaller powerhead down the line just to get some more flow variations, but it's not essential at this time. Good luck and enjoy your tank.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I'm still torn between two mp10's or one mp40, but I have time. I'm going slow and I'm going to see what my final aquascape is before I rush into a decision on a wave maker

Here is the rock rinsed in ro/di. I was left with a bucket full of scum and some organics. Clean rocks look a tad bit whiter but it could be the lighting.

Hey, denubila ...
My current thinking is that two lights are better than one. My reasoning is that by splitting the lights up, you have less shadowing ... better light distribution.

My system has one AI Prime that is doing well, but there is a clear reduction of growth where animals are living in the shadow of another, or of themselves.

My hope is to buy another Prime and create curves so that during the morning ramp up/evening ramp down of intensity, to have the "East" light come on first in the morning and the "West" light go off last, creating a net curve that emulates, as much as one can with two lights, the sun traversing the daytime sky.

Yes, I am going with two Hydra 26's for my lights. I don't think anyone is going to change my mind on that one. My friend has the prime hd and it's an amazing light. I had T5's on my old tank and they were loud, the frame rusted and I had to replace the bulbs every 8 months which would cost over $100.00. LED is the only thing I'm touching.

Got a new camera for Christmas and now have a half way decent picture of my clown pair.

So far so good. I don't see any box damage. I order this from Marine Depot if anyone wants to know.
