NJD Reefer 250

Keep testing..or add some macbacteria and some ammonia to the tank...help kick start the process.
Did you add live rock? Live sand? That usually helps the process as well

I 60lbs of sand I added is considered "live" though I do not want to add live rock because I do not want pests or bad algae.

One ish week into the cycle and still nothing. No ammonia no nitrite no nitrate. Calc and alk are 430 and 9dkh so that's good. Had a problem with the temp but it's been fixed. I had to build a 1.5" acrylic stand for my skimmer because it was overflowing, though it's been off the entire cycle. I'm still waiting on the second hydra. I might cancel that order and pick one up at the store

Just a quick update. I am seeing nitrates, they are around 5ppm. I have a diatom bloom as well so I'm going to do a large water change and start adding fish slowly. My first addition will probably be my shrimp goby pair from my other tank. Here are some pics!

Love the shrimp goby pair. I only thing I miss with being BB is not being able to have one. Love watching them in their sand hole home. Tank is looking great so far!

I saw in your original post that you have 2 Hydra 26's...in your pics your using only one...are you using 1 or 2? I am getting the same setup and was wandering how the tank is with one

I'm going to have two, but only have one set up at the moment. I'm waiting on getting the mounting system for the second one but just haven't had the time to order one or pick one up. Once I get it I'll have two up.

4 mp10s seem like a lot unless you plan on doing all sps, or you have them turned all the way down..

As for my tank, added the first two inhabitants today. My shrimp and goby pair. My ammonia, Nitrates have been 0 for a week and my nitrates are about 5ppm after I did a large water change. Everything else is testing good.

A Yasha and pistol shrimp were my first tank inhabitants ten years ago. The Yasha passed on, but my pistol is still alive and clicking. Not sure how long they live, but that little bugger never quits.

Your tank is looking really good.

I finally got my reefer 250 filled and dialed in last weekend. After making a sock muffler, these reefers are super quiet!

How long did you have to cycle the tank for before you add your fish and shrimp? BTW the tank looks great.

Thanks! I cycled the tank a little under 3 weeks. I added stability and bacteria supplements until the ammonia dropped. I did a large water change before I put them in as well. I'll continue to add the stability for now.

Loud yes, annoying not at all. It only makes the sounds at dusk and it's not loud enough to be annoying.

My pistol shrimp makes a warning click when any other fish invades its space. Not too loud, and not often at all. Kind of sounds like two small stones knocked together.

Thanks! Anyone have a suggestion as to what my next tank mate should be?

Just went to the store. I now have a cleaner shrimp pair and some snails. Here they are ... as for fish, deciding between a wrasse or blenny, not sure what kind yet.
