No disconnect for pump/driver cord???

So I chose the VT over tunze and I have a problem. There is no disconnect on the cord between the driver and the pump!

I have a closed back stand so the only way to get the driver out of sight would be to insert it through a hole. I envisioned drillng a hole big enough for the cord, but it looks like I will have to cut a much larger hole to fit the driver though. That is not an attractive option.

Anyone have any ideas?

You can open the case of the driver and unplug the motor assembly itself, drill your hole, place pump, route wire where needed, plug back in and place cover back on. Your set. FYI, while unplgging the connector, do not pull on the wires to unplg it. Pull the connector itself. Pulling the wires could cause a wire are multiple wires to disconnect from the connector. It is snug, but will come out.

To open the driver, use a square razor blade and work it between the halves starting on the left side to the right. Should not have any issues. A lot easier than it may sound.

thank you poppy. That is encouraging. I hope it is much easier than it sounds...;)

I wont be ready to route the wires for a little while but I did just start playing with the pump. Really impressive. I made a big wave!

No problem rishma. It really is easy. It will take you a few seconds to get the first side off, but once you get the hang of it, the other side is easy.

The pump is nice. What size tank do you have?

30x24x22 that the pump is for, but it will not be filled with water for another week. I have a couple of temporary holding tanks with all my stuff. I put the VT on a 20 gal. The fish we not amuzed.

Casshern...it's no different than the guys that are doing the upgrade to the wireless. They have to take the cover off the driver to do the swap. The cover is not sealed in anyway nor is the plug. I see no harm in it, but Tim will most likely chime in next week and/or Icecap to verify.

Rishma, you may want to use a thin screwdriver in place of a razor blade. That was Ice Cap's suggestion to me. I broke a razor blade trying to pry the two halves apart, it's a pretty good snap. I was doing the upgrade.

I don't see why it would void the warranty, it's like like any other computer plug. You just have to exercise care and pull gently on the plug, not the cables like Poppy828 said. There is a little latch you may want to lift up and push first. Keep your fingers off everything else on the board.

i forgot about all the people doing the upgrade. my mistake! but ecotech/icecap will chime in and have the last word for sure

It will definitely NOT void the warranty. In essence all you are doing is unplugging the motor, rerouting the cord, then plugging back in. No problem at all in doing that. As CJ stated, I would recommend a thin blade screw driver. If it slips no damage, with a razor blade - could be painful.

Thank you, everyone. The warranty had crossed my mind, I am glad Icecap chimed in.

I have not unplugged it yet, but I notice the driver cover is not tight. There is a gap on the top edge. It is almost like the insides are too big and pushing the cover out in the center. Is this normal? Is is a problem? I am concerned about dust/moisture.

I pushed on it and it will not snap together. I suppose I'll bet a better look when I take the cover off, but I figure I should ask first.

Not all covers fit perfectly, this is normal. The box is not water tight and the driver must be placed in a dry location where there is no possibility for leaks.

You shouldn't have any problem removing the lid by following the instructions above.

Please be careful not to pull the motor cable out by the wires by instead pulling on the plastic plug itself.. If you pull a wire from the connector this will have to be repaired at your expense.

As for Poppy and CJ helping out while ETM and IC were out of the office during the weekend, thanks so much! We really appreciate your support.
