No foam from skimmer

Ok so I haven't had a tank up and running in over 4 years and I have realized lot of my information is outdated. That being said I have purchased a cpr bak pak HOB skimmer look alike from ebay and I can’t get it to produce any foam. I have a 20G Long with a DIY 10G Sump and it hangs in the sump where the over flow flows into. The first baffle is about 3 inches from the top so the water level in the sump obviously doesn’t go to the top. I rinsed my skimmer multiple times before I put it in my tank. Would the reason for no foam be because of the water level? The pump is fully submerged and half the line it is connected to. The air line is also out of the water and open about half way. The display only has sand in it and the specific gravity is 1.022

Here is the skimmer I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-Pack-HO...&otn=5&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=6951662177723845903

How long have you had it running? It can take a week or so for skimmers to break in and really start working.

When I had a HOB, it took even longer - a couple of weeks to get going.

A couple of days. I thought it should still produce foam. There is literally NO foam whatsoever. I would hardly say it produces micro bubbles

Everything sounds ok with your setup. The water level doesn't matter much with HOB skimmers in my experience because if the pump is pulling water into the skimmer, that's all that is needed. Maybe try closing the air line or opening it more to see if you can get some foam.

One thought - if you squeeze the airline tube (cutting off all air) it should raise the water level in the reaction chamber. Does that happen?

If not, maybe some others might chime in?

pics please

ill post some when i get home

i have played with the air line adjustment from all the way open to all the way closed with no avail. I have closed the air line, but i can't remember if the water level rises or not. I might remember it staying the same, but i could be wrong. I will try this when i get home aswell
