No job, no money = new tank!

What can I say, but I subscribe to Craig C's outlook on life. So much for fiscal responsibility!

I am upgrading my 12g Aquapod to a 24g JBJ w/ 150W viper MH lighting. The plan is to go with mostly SPS. Here are a few pics of what I've got going on with the rock work so far.

Here is the view from the front. My intent was to maximize the amount of real estate for attaching frags. In addition to the "central orifice" there are at least four other pass throughs and numerous caves and overhangs. The overall look strikes me as vaguely oriental, but I am not sure why.

this is a pic from the top (with the light out of the way)

and here is a the view from my bed. You can see how well the light illuminates all of the rock face.

I will be adding sand a water shortly. I hope I have enough sand to come just over the PVC risers.

Your comments and opinions are welcome, at least until the corals start encrusting.

I really like your rockwork.

I'm planning an upgrade to a similar sized tank soon (considering the BC29, AP24 and the NC24). Did you buy yours locally or order it?

I picked up the tank locally last week. I have had the light sitting around for six months or so.

Here are the first inhabitants:

They are called strawberry crabs. I did some research and they are supposed to be reefsafe (for a crab?). I had never seen these before in all of my years in the hobby, but found that they are available from a few sources online. I don't usually name my live stock but I feel the need to name one of them Darryl.

Five Month Update

Things have been going well in this tank, so far no major drama! Coraline algae and some of the SPS bleached/browned out last month when I switched to a Reeflux 10K bulb, but everything is regaining its color.

Here is a list of the current inhabitants (off the top of my head):

Superman monti (very brown)
Green milli
German blue polyp digi
Green cap w/purple rim
Green cap w/purple polyps
Green cap w/pink polyps
Orange cap
Green acro
"Johnny Appleseed" chalice
Duncans (lots of new polyps)
Zoas (six or more color morphs)
Clove polyps
2 RBTAs (from a split)
2 Strawberry crabs
Halloween hermit crab
Tiger tail cuke
Fighting conch
Various other snails and crabs.

Wow talk about an update that is a huge change, looking awesome man, maybe you will grab some more frags at this month's frag event.

That's a sweet nano....I gotta admire your rockwork....having that much illuminated surface is incredible....

The Strawberry crabs were around during the mid 80's....it's neat to see em again....
