No one wanted the DD gigantea today?

I think the recent uptick in gig deaths and the increased price have caused people to think about their purchase instead of quickly hitting the "buy" button at 3:01 (if that, LOL).

Please document your experience here. The gig fanatics are in desperate need of a success story, and your's could very well be it. I know I can speak for the others here when I say we'll do whatever we can to help you. Best of luck!

That's what I was going to say too.. All the deaths and LA selling bleached anemones. Not like them...

That one in the pic looks pretty good.

What I dont get is divers den is only from Rhinelander LA and Have been there several times now.. They are top notch and quarantine stuff, how is this happening lately with their Giganteas. By the way all LA are not the same, I have had bad luck with allot of stuff not coming from their Rhinelander LA.

Thanks, though I'm not a frequent poster here, I've been following all of the gigantea threads in the past few weeks very closely. I'm excited and up for the challenge! :)

I had a feeling you'd say that! Again, we're here to help! I know you've been looking for a long time and have been extremely helpful when I've asked you about gigs in Southern CA. Hopefully more stores in L.A. will get gigs. Once you have one, it's hard to stop!

Hmmmm... I've always wondered if yellow ones existed. A part of me thinks they're just bleached green ones that have been Photoshopped. There were a few that appeared at a wholesaler maybe a year ago. The asking price at the time was $350:

If it were to be truly yellow, an avid collector would pay a huge sum for it. Just like red haddoni sell for over $600 on LA DD. If someone were to sell a true red gigantea, my guess would be it would easily go for over $1k.

Bluezoo sells (when they have them) blue gigs smaller than the one you got for $1300....gulp. Makes yours look like a bargain ;)

are you serious?? wow ... the $$ def. has gone up ... I remember one of the guys there contacting me with a HUGE blue gig back in 2009 for "only" 3-400 ... i drove all the way from Alhambra to Inglewood and back braving the insane LA traffic for it! haha. ..only to have it die about a week later (pre-cipro days) sigh.

I have to agree with you on this one ... I also think that the yellow ones eventually morph into green, whether it's due to being bleached or just lighting--especially since nowadays, LED lights can make a huge difference in colors, and yellow vs neon green are so close as it is.

It sort of reminds me of those insane hammer corals that a lot of sites are selling as "yellow" when they're more of a "radioactive green" lol

But man, if there actually exists a TRUE yellow gigantea, I'd actually prefer that over a red one! ;)

Yikes! That's a lot of dough to spend on an anemone that may not recover! And, I bet they don't spend much time withe the customer getting it acclimated either, once it's paid for and shipped... I would agree, looks a bit photo shopped to me too, but you never know. One of my greens looked yellow too, when I first got it, came bleached.

That could also be marketing too, getting a shock of a price out there, only to "offer at a substantial...discount... of ONLY $500..." later on.

I had to cancel my order over the weekend because I spotted an identical purple one (just as large) at my LFS on Sunday, and wanted to avoid the additional stress of shipping, especially if I could have one locally! So happy that LA DD let me cancel it. Will post pics of the new gig in a seperate thread :)

So will they resell it soon?

Looking forward to the pics Jamie.

Hey cool! You found your diamond in the rough! Good luck and start your new thread!

I live close enough to go to neptunes cove store front and shop. Have purchased items as well and can say that his photos are usually a pretty close match to the real thing and if you email him on a high dollar item he will video it for you to give you a better idea. Also if you live close enough his in store prices are usually cheaper than online.

I apologize if this comes off as promoting a non reefcentral sponsor, just giving my experience with this dealer.

Retail price for a purple gigantea in Southern California is $150. Was just at a store three days ago that had two purples and one green. The green was I think $75 or $80.
