Its funny, I sometimes go thru the same thing. I have very little PE during the day and they look hairy at night. I was a firm believer it was the fish but as soon as the lights come on, the Polyps retract in a mater of minutes...
I would be concerned if you are not getting at least a little PE at night. Fish are mostly dormant at night so I would rule out the nipping at night.
I also noticed that switching from maxi jets to the seio powerheads made my PE at night even better. I think the acro's and milli's were getting blasted by the MJ's....
Everyone's tanks are different and such but again, you should be getting PE at night. For awhile I couldn't even run lunar lights, my acros did not extend half as much as they do now in the dark....
I get a "little" PE at night. Not much though. That's part of why I haven't jumped in to get the angels out. If there were tons of PE at night I might think the fish were the cause for sure. I am seeing a good amount of growth on my coral, so...
you know, that's true. I also get some PE at night, but it still isnt full extension. And they do grow too, though not terribly quickly. Ca reactor is under "design overhaul" so the alk/ca is still low...
Hi,
hope you don't mind a little input from an English reefer
I came downstairs this morning before any of my tank lights came on to find MASSIVE polyp extension on my A.Millipora Colony where in the daylight hours there is little to none. http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j60/AntsReef/ec6b2931.jpg
And guess what ? This particular coral is my yellow clown goby's favourite perching place. I had another Milli(frag not colony) some time ago that was killed by this goby rubbing it constanyly. After reading this thread I've decided to use the siphon method to get the goby out,a shame as the milli is dusky pink and looks great with the yellow goby
Thanks for the welcome. I will try and get the little blighter out this weekend. I will let you know how it goes. However I now have a problem with my A.Millipora that I will highlight in another post,
regards,
Anthony
