No polyp extension

yea, i never seem them at night. They pretty much go in their hole and stay there. I noticed a little better color in a few frags, including the LPS. It does help to keep the alkalinity up consistantly, and it has a very good buffer capacity, so the nightly pH swings arnt as great.

I'm getting a CA reactor tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if that makes any difference. I really don't expect it too, but the reactor will be more consistant.

I think it will help for sure. I think that my alk was chronically low, thus inhibiting growth. Polyp extension, im still thinking has more to do with chemical triggers for food than anything. If I can trigger certain zoos to open during the day with cyclopeze (which is reallly odd that they're the only ones that close during the day) then the sps might have a similar mechanisim for the food that they're looking for...

Everything extends at night except the fairly new (a week) frogspawn. Could it be getting so much light during day-cycle it doesn't need to?

I've never seen frogspawn or hammer, for that matter, extend at night. Guess I never questioned it. Seems more logical to be open during the day i guess... :D

...why do acros have to be so troublesome!!

What was the outcome? I'm having some polyp extension problems and I only have tangs and a pair of clown's.

I followed this thread for a bit and finally just gave up and just went the drastic route..

I removed the clown gobies and flame angel.

I removed all my leathers (toadstool and nepthia).

Started running carbon and phosgaurd 24/7.

Don't know which of the three was causing the problem or a combination of all, but I now have great PE.

Wow... You did it up right! :) How long after you did all that did it take for good PE?

I did remove my clown goby. I would probably ahve to tear the tank down to get the coral beauty and flame angel though. I have a large devils hand in the center of my tank. My husband would not be happy if I removed that!

I would take some new pics but the lights are out here are a couple from a weeks ago, I can take some more tomorrow if you want..I really struggle with the camera. Let me know.

WOW... Very NICE! I'm jealous! Maybe I need to be more aggressive with catching my angels. I already do phosban and carbon 24/7. The leather... well I would really be pushing that one. ;)

I never saw the flame pick on the coral above, but i did watch it devour a pocillipora over three days.

That flame angel was a smart fish though, so he probably only picked when I was at work. I thought about giving him to the LPS for the EEL tank when i did catch it.

If your running fresh carbon you would think the leather issue would have little effect, but who knows.

Hope this helps you guys somehow.

I'm pretty sure there are some 'leathers' that just do not get along with many of the 'SPS'. Many of the LPS can be very agressive in their release of chemicals into the water. Is it possible to relocate it to a tank that is not connected with your current one? I would then suggest doing some water changes coupled with some PolyFilter and fresh carbon.
