im freaking out, i have a generator but im at work and cannot start until 12AM by the time i get home. fish will have nothing for 6 hours! im freaking

Any chance you could take a little while off to go home and take care of them? Six hours is along time. Will your system start up without you if the power comes back on before then?

With a 155g system, I can't imagine that you will have many problems. Your temp should remain steady and, the fish and corals won't lose out on too much light. The only things that may be affected are the PH and disolved oxygen. Other than that,
FIRE UP THAT GENERATOR!!!!

all good, survived 6 hours. and the main tank is 100 gallons so things last longer in larger tanks, and i had wifey stir it up a little

guess its a good way to see how my tank will react to stressors and how much it can take. one time in the winter it was off for 2 days and down to 64 degrees and it was all fine. its a stressful situation but its amazing how much stress the tank can take when it has to (with large water volume)

Holy crap-balls. I would have lost it. My power went out on the hottest day of the year 3 years ago. 95 degrees out at midnight. When power came on my tank was 87 as I recall, with no circulation of aeration. Fish were ok. Corals slimed up and retracted. Water change, carbon, etc. Looooong night!

sold the vortech, just wasnt doing it for me Gary, not enough space to push the water like they should. I might get another backup power source for a power head or two for the future.

I wish you had a job where you could leave for a fish emergency!! lol. Glad to see everything went smooth. Looks like you need to teach your lady friend how to start a generator!
