No-Rotifer Feeding

I was going through Joyce Wilkersons book and came across a section that talks about feeding pulverized flake food as a first food instead of Rotifers. Has any one tried this?

I have Maroon Clowns that spawn and I am now considering raising them.

Thanks,
Bill

You will end up with very low survival rate. Maroon larvae is small and they do best on rotifers.

Several problems with feeding pulverized food:
1) Most of the fry won't eat it. They need live food to stimulate feeding.
2) It doesn't stay in the water column, so you need to feed 5 or more times a day.
3) The amount of food needed pollutes the water, requiring siphoning of uneaten food more than once a day.

It turns out that rotifers are actually easier.

Really good freshly hatched baby brine will work for some, but survival would be bad.
I have tried different things the only that that consistently works is rotifers. Just get a starter and then run a couple of 5 gallon colonies and you will have plenty.

Reeds rotif feast(sp) does seem to work decent and does not foul the water to bad. I have used it in a pinch with good results
