No sand or sand bed

Decided to keep a close record of the tank values, and add more tests as I can. Star an excell sheet or something. I really want to see if there is any progress with nutrient export. Tomorrow is clean up day. The skimmer keeps getting lots of juice and the sock seem to be a good idea. By the way, what kind of filter socks do you guys use? What material?

I use 300 micron, 200 got clogged too often. Been thinking about not using filter sock anymore though.

FYI - Attached is excel spreadsheet I use to keep track of water.

Damn, I ordered 100 micron filter sock...
But let me ask you another question. Is the filter sock made of felt or nylon? I have felt filter sock but the one I ordered is nylon.

Thank you very much for the excel spreadsheet! Going to follow your model! Thanks.

I just texted a local reefer who has lots of experience and he currently has an incredible aquarium build with DT on 1F and huge sump/filter area in his basement...yeah he drilled a hole through the floor between 1F and basement to set this up! Anyway, he said he uses Two Little Fishes brand reactors and runs one with carbon and the other with phosphate media to help control nitrate and phosphate. I'm going to look into setting these up in my sump tapping off the existing return pump via a T-valve. I was on the fence about doing this but looks like I will now to try n keep nitrate zero. Otherwise I'll have to do too much water change.

LED better than incandescent bulb, less heat and energy. Do they still sell incandescent bulbs in Europe?

Only in very specific shops and for specific purposes. Gladly they where replaced for economic and now for LED's. Portugal is a very green and ecological country. Yeahhh

Just remembered, I work in an area that still uses incandescent lights. How could I forget that ahahah.
Although we are starting to use some LED, and a few years ago we started to use fluorescent tubes, television is still an example of the use of incandescent bulbs.

Yesterday I got the Salifert Carbonate Hardness/Alkalinity test...I'm having some doubts interpreting the readings. Can I have your thoughts?
The syringe gave the a reading in the 0,3 ml. I think the readings on the Salifert table was 3,88 meq/l or 10,9dkh. Am I reading it wrong? If this is correct, it's a little high right? Meaning that Calcium is probably low? Damn chemistry...[emoji30]

The other values where more less, I think.

Temperature: 27C°
Salinity: 1026/1027 (maybe a little high)
Nitrates: 25mg/l
Phosphates: 0,1ppm

Made a water change Thursday, will wait a day or two and test again, decide if 7 days is a too big interval for WC.

Am I on a right track?

not familiar w Salifert kit but 10.9dkh is fine and Calc may not necessarily be low if ur tank has balanced water, did u test calc?

Salinity is a bit high, I keep mine at 1.025 and so it NO3, it's a bit high. I just ordered Prodibio BioDigest to keep nitrate n Phosphate low, just have to dose it once every 2 weeks and bye bye nitrate/phosphate. I'll let u know how it works out.

sorry for short responses, weekends r very hectic for my family especially w 3 kids!!!

Nothing to be sorry. Totally understand you. I have two kids too. I admit, I'm exhausted. I go to work to have some rest [emoji23]. Just kidding, they just have so much energy, I can't keep up...lol

Ok. Let me now on the prodibio. I do not know that but seem like probiotic bacteria.

Oh, and I still need to get the Calcium and pH test. I want to have a nice kit to understand what's going on in the tank.

Well my younger is 2 and the oldest 7. The younger (girl) just rags with the fish until they eat everything up. Not a single pellet reaches the sand, lol. The older is starting to like the hobby. I let him make some tests and he just feels like a cientist, eheh.

Your tank looks great. I've done some serious planning mistakes. I have an internal coast to coast overflow. Just hate that thing. I so want to make an overflow like the one you have. How many drain pipes do you have? Only one circulation pump is enough?

those r the fun ages, they're so cute and still want u around... enjoy. :) My 2 older boys r 16 & 14... we recently moved so boys can walk to school now. In the new house when I saw for the 1st time my oldest son wake himself up, made himself breakfast then walked to school I had conflicting emotions. I was so impressed and happy my boy was growing up but I was also saddened that he no longer needs my wife and I as much...

Thanks. It's a Marineland cube so came standard w 1 drain & 1 return. Thing about corner overflow is that it's deep and hard to do any cleaning w/o removing the pipes. Would think coast-to-coast is easier for maintenance while providing more surface area water flow/stirring as it drains. What don't u like about it?

1 circulation pump was plenty when I had it in previous 60G cube but thinking about adding 1 more for the bigger 93G cube. I upgraded to the 93G in April. To save $ been thinking of connecting my old Eheim canister filter to the return pump line as GFO reactor and then feed the Eheim's return portion inside the tank to stir water in dead areas where the circulation pump cannot reach.
