Noise difference between Dart and Barracuda?

I have a Sequence Barracuda for my closed loop and its too loud. I was thinking about a downgrade to the Dart to save my ears.

Is there a big difference in sound?

Thanks!!

The dart is known for being pretty quiet, just got one myself.
I think that would be plenty of flow for your 90(3600gph)

I found that with my Snapper (same size as dart but with slightly smaller impeller) how the pump and plumbing was mounted made all the difference in sound. If your PVC tubing is resting against stuff, it will be MUCH louder. I isolated all of my plumbing with soft closed cell foam (like the stuff put under PERGO flooring), and I put the foam under my pump as well. Makes all the diffference.

I was thinking about using dynamat that ppl use for car audio installations.

My 4way plumbing is not touching anything. The arms are basicly floating in the air supported by the 4way.

Dynamat is too stiff. You need something relatively soft. Dynamat is for damping spontaneous vibrations, not forced vibration like our pumps put out. What you need is isolation. It is good that the arms aren't touching anything.

One thing you can do to determine if there is any possible improvement with isolation is to lift your pump off the ground while it is running. If it gets quieter, then you have hope that some isolation material will work.

Yep did that already.. it does make a difference but the overal pump noise is there so i know for sure this pump is too loud.

I am curious about the sound difference between a dart and barracuda. I wish Sequence would have db specs for these pumps.

And here I thought you were looking for comparisons between an old 6 cylinder Dodge Dart and an old 8 cylinder Plymouth 'Cuda.

I have a dart on my closed loop for my 75 gallon frag tank. The pump is quite but does have a slight hum. I have a cuda ready to install on my wifes 120 gallon tank as soon as the stand is finished. If you are still looking when I get it setup I will let you know how much difference there is in the sound.

This is not good news. I have a cuda that I am installing in the living room next week. I spoke to the folks at Reeflo when I choose this pump and was led to believe this is a quiet pump and suitable for my setup. Just how bad is it?

Different people have different thresholds. My hammerhead is a low hum. Quiter than my cheap cooling fans :)

Funny but my buddy has a Hammerhead and a Barracuda and the Hamer is MUCH quieter. Makes no sense.

Bad enough that you wont keep it. I love the flow, dont get me wrong but even with my office door closed its loud.

Well I guess i'll try some of the dampening tricks posted in this thread and hope for the best. This is going on a 210 so the Dart is too small and the Hammerhead uses too much electricity. I might be getting the Wave2K afterall.

I actually have the rubber pad sold by MDM to put under the pump. FWIW, it is very dense/hard, not soft or squishy in any way. You can barely bend it.
